Top 10 Winter Care Tips

Dry, flaky, cracked and sensitive skin. Signs of winter skin. The cold air outside and warm/heated air indoors depletes the moisture of the skin. This causes cracking, dryness and flaking of the skin. If the winter is taking its toll on your skin, take these precautions to bring back that glow and luster.

How to Take Care of Skin in Winter

  1. Get a facial done - Whatever may be your skin type there will be a change in the skin as there is a change in the climate. A great way to start your winter season is by getting a good facial done. This will allow your cold weather skin-care routine to be more effective.

  2. Drink plenty of water - Many of us presume that we have to stay hydrated only in summer and not in winter. However this is a wrong notion. In winter we get more dehydrated. Therefore it is important to drink plenty of water, if you want to maintain a healthy skin.

  3. Use heavy cream or moisturizer - We use heavy coats and jackets to protect ourselves from the cold. Similarly, you have to give extra protection to your skin especially, in the areas where it is more exposed- face and hands by regularly massaging with heavy cream. This will keep the skin hydrated.

  4. Avoid using winter skin care and beauty products that contain petroleum - This will clog the pores on the skin making it hard for the moisture to seep in. Whether it is a lip balm or skin lotion check for the ingredients.

  5. Don't forget your sunscreen - Just because you're shivering does not mean that the sun's ray is hibernating. Using sunscreen is important even in winter. As in summer, ensure that you apply sunscreen at least 30 minutes before you go out of your home.

  6. Instead of gel cleanser use cream cleanser - The astringent in gel cleanser will dry out and irritate winter skin. By using cream cleanser you can remove the facial makeup without depleting the skin of its moisture.

  7. Exfoliate regularly - To get glowing and lustrous skin in winter exfoliate regularly. Do it at least thrice a week. Exfoliation will remove the dead skin that has built up during the winter.

  8. Use hydrating serum - In summer due to humidity you do not require one. However, the dry winter air will make your skin look dull. Therefore, use a good hydrating serum before applying your regular moisturizer.

  9. Try using oils- Half an hour before you take a bath, apply either coconut, olive, avocado or almond oil and massage well. You will notice the skin absorbs the moisture from the oil leaving your skin silky soft after a soak in a tub of tepid water or warm water shower. Aromatic oil will also lift your spirits on a dreary winter day.

  10. Take care of your lips and body too - Take care of your lips and body too - The lips can get chapped, therefore use a good lip balm with sun protection formula. Whatever you do to your face, do it for your other parts of the body including legs and hands
