Who Do You Need to Be?

Happy new year to you, and happy birthday to me! Today is my birthday and One thing I love about having a birthday just after the new year is that it truly makes me feel that I have a clean slate to start from, a fresh chance and whole year to reach my goals. I have set some pretty huge goals for myself this year, and part of what will help me be who I need to be is upleveling my image. Yes, even we style professionals have to take it up a notch sometimes, and I am my own best client.

How do you want to show up in 2013? If you spent the better part of 2012 stressing out about what to wear, randomly spending money on wardrobe 'quick fixes' only to discover that it was wasted on things that actually added to your problem, and feeling like you never really looked quite right, then I truly want to help you.

Life's too short to show up not looking (and feeling) your best. It can drag you down, make you feel frumpy, zap your confidence or keep you hiding out behind baggy, black clothes (yes, I know you!) But the truth is that you don't have to - you get to make a choice. And I want you to choose to look your very best, each and every day. To show up in a brilliant, beautiful way. To truly shine just by being who you were meant to be!

One aspect that can truly transform how you show up is refining your image. Personally, I'm giving myself a makeover and am looking forward to the process. Taking my image to a new level will allow me to do things I have never done before, to see myself in a different light and to show up in a powerful way.

The great news about upleveling is that it doesn't have to be difficult, expensive or time-consuming. In fact, quite the opposite. Now that I'm the mother of 4 kids who keep me very busy, I am honing my style skills and practicing what I preach. I'm not giving up on my style and I don't want you to either!

Here are a few easy steps to get you where you want to be:

1/ Self Assessment - Take some time this first week of the new year and assess where you are, and where you want to go. Will your existing image/style allow you to show up as the person you want to be? If your goal is to get a new job, have a new romance, or just boost your confidence, your image is key to stepping into those roles. In fact, if you don't it will only work against you and keep you right where you are. A few small changes can create a big impact on your look and your bottom line.

2/ Be Objective - Sure you see yourself in the mirror everyday, but try and see yourself with fresh eyes and feel how others see you. You may notice that your clothing could use an update, your roots are showing and a little makeup would give you a bit of a glow. Be gentle on yourself. This isn't the time for self-criticism, but about accepting yourself for who you are and asking how you can improve on that.

3/ One Small Change - While it can seem completely overwhelming to transform your entire image at once, starting with one small change a day can add up to a huge impact that will give you the results you're looking for without taking you out of your comfort zone. Ask yourself what one small change you could make today to achieve your image goal, and do it. Baby steps equal big results.

4/ Ask for Help - Change can be hard on your own, so don't be afraid to ask for help. A professional image consultant, hairstylist, makeup artist, personal shopper, dentist, therapist, etc. can all assist you in showing up the way you truly want to. They're all here to help and want the best for you, so don't be shy. A new you is waiting to happen!

Wishing you a bright and beautiful new year!
