The Better Side of Celebrity Branding

Celebrity branding can be very lucrative by way of endorsement deals, but when it comes to these famous elites creating and marketing their own product lines, success is not always guaranteed. I, for one, have always avoided buying anything that's designed by an entertainer. I find it a little difficult to believe that people can just dabble in different industries expecting to compete with big name professionals. I say, stick to what you're good at, or at least keep doing whatever it is that made you so famous. Despite my ill feelings towards celebrity lines, there are a few surprisingly great products that I deem worthy.

Perfumery

Sarah Jessica Parker's Eau de Parfum "Lovely" debuted in 2005 and following its success she has since released other perfumes to join her fragrance collection. This scent can be described as light and delicate, yet modern. It has both flowery and musky notes, making this a less than girly perfume that might also actually work for a guy.

Jennifer Lopez's Live Luxe Eau de Parfum Spray can only be described as liquid J.Lo in a bottle. It's fruity and flowery, but light, keeping it sophisticated and not too sweet. This perfume has great customer reviews and has been compared to popular designer scents like those created by Escada.

Makeup

Kat Von D's artistry has extended far beyond the limits of her tattoo parlor and all the way into the cosmetics industry. Her collection is retro-inspired, designed to make you look as pretty as a pin up girl.

Salma Hayek is not only an incredible actress (and goddess) but she's apparently great at selling makeup too. Her line "Nuance" is modeled after her grandmother's cosmetics and skincare recipes. How cute is that? The makeup is all paraben and cruelty free and comes in neutral shades. It's an "everyday" sort of makeup that's not overly dramatic, but could still be worn for a night out. You can find the Nuance line at CVS stores.

Clothing

There are a ton of celebrity clothing lines, but very few good ones. Some of the very best are created by celebs like Nicole Ritchie, the Olsen Twins and Victoria Beckham who are pros at creating chic and fashionable pieces at very unaffordable prices. Clothing lines like the Kardashian Kollection carry some useful items like basic pants and blouses, but most of their items are just really flashy and over the top, like blue and white leopard print over the top.

Jessica Simpson however has a pretty impressive collection of items in her clothing line, which are reasonably priced and easy to find at department stores like Macy's. The line includes shoes, handbags, coats and clothing. I own a pair of her heels and they are definitely among the most comfortable in my closet. I was surprised at the quality and would probably have paid more for them. I'm glad she's no longer in the business of making edible lip-gloss. Am I the only one that remembers that?
