How Using A Posture Bra Helps Improve Your Posture

You've probably heard about it: 'Full figure women have substantial front loads that often lead to bad posture which can be relieved by posture bras.' Whether it is true or just a commercial ploy is immaterial; what matters is if you slump, slouch, roll forward or otherwise have a forward-oriented posture and feel uncomfortable about it, maybe a posture bra is the answer or part of the solution.

A posture bra is a support bra whose essential function is to remind you to straighten up your back ---pull your shoulders back and up--- to reduce the pressure on your back muscles and realign your spine to the correct curvature. Such a bra would feature criss-crossed bands in the back, no wires under the bra cups, and maybe front and back extended to the waist or covers much of the torso in the 'longline' designs. The bra's extended back and front panels and the (often) reinforced back bands serve to limit your forward movement, making it somewhat difficult for you to bend forward, in effect forcing you to maintain good posture.

This way, your tendency to slump or slouch forward is eliminated little by little, eventually correcting your posture.

That is, if you do your part by doing the appropriate back and neck muscles exercises, since the posture bra alone will not be sufficient. Simply follow the pressure exerted by the bra, actually employing your muscles to pull your shoulders back and up, and repeating the exercise every now and then. The exercise will build up your muscles where it counts.

Posture bras are generally of three types: the standard front-closure, the sports pullover, and the 'longline'. The first type appears like a normal bra but with criss-crossed back bands and appropriate for women with lesser problems. The second type has no closures and is pulled over the head (hence the name) to wear it. The last bra type has long front and sometimes also back panels for greater support, designed for women with full-figure breasts or more slumping posture.

What posture bra you need depends on your personal requirements. Women with large breasts may need longline-type bras, as well as those with already poor posture or have rather weak upper back muscles. For thin women or those with small breasts, bras fitted with elastic bands in a normal fit would probably suffice. To simply cancel a tendency to slouch or prevent slumping, the front closure type would be enough most times.

Whatever you need or choose, remember that comfort and fit are the major considerations in selecting which posture bra to buy and use. By 'comfort' it means comfortable when your back is straight and uncomfortable when it is not. Then you know your posture problem is being acted on by the bra.

A posture bra is intended to help correct a posture problem, as its name indicates. It is not made to carry all the work and needs your participation to be truly effective. To find the best bra for you, you can visit http://www.orlinas.com for your pre-purchase research.

Adult Jumpsuits: A Trend to Try

Adult jumpsuits are becoming more and more popular nowadays, and what you think is just fit for babies is now being the latest trend among adults, particularly a good number of celebrities. Also known as all-in-one pajamas, adult jumpsuits are designed to be just that, a suit created with a single piece intended to cover the entire body. In fact, these are also referred to as footie pajamas since they can cover the wearer's entire foot as well. Again, while these are often associated with infants and toddlers, there are new items of clothing designed for adults, and they, too, come in different designs.

Jumpsuits are designed to be worn during the colder months and are usually made with a zipper that runs through the back. For the foot part, a rubberized material is used to prevent it from being slippery. And while these types of apparel come in several different materials, the two most common are flannel and fleece. Most people prefer the type that is made of flannel because unlike fleece, flannel does not easily lose its softness even after several washes. Some prefer fleece saying that the material feels more comfortable than flannel to the skin, but a major disadvantage with fleece is that it easily picks up animal hair.

The original jumpsuits are actually not pajamas but garments that snap at the baby's crotch area. And if you're wondering where the term originated, this is actually the brand name given to the said style of apparel. It was one of the best innovations in terms of infant apparel because it made life easier for parents. Today, these come in a variety of styles, and both the ones made for adults and babies usually come with hoods that are designed to offer extra warmth and comfort during the colder months. Some also come with side pockets and a flap at the back portion, which is clearly designed for babies who are in the potty training stage.

The apparel for adults are now often referred to as jumpsuits. There are those designed to look like bigger versions of baby one-piece pajamas, and there are those that look like overalls that are intended to be utilitarian garments. These have even become a fashion trend nowadays! Designers found a way to customize the jumpsuit by adding glitter and updating the style every now and then to make them appear more fashionable. And even if you think otherwise, these have started to become a trend among famous celebrities and are definitely something worth a try.

Shattering Negative Images: Discovering Your Internal Power - A Life Lesson for Women

From the beginning of time, a woman's role has been defined for her, such as wife, mother, caregiver, and nurturer. According to Poovey, 1988, prior to the twentieth century, women were primarily absent from the workplace. As the years sped by, women have earned their right to vote, to own property and to pursue their personal and professional goals in almost any area they desire. However, what has worsened over the past several years is the yard stick society uses to continue to define a women's external beauty, specifically, her size, hair, and skin to name a few and for Black women this includes their skin color.

Having to navigate through and attempt to meet the unrealistic expectations set for women has historically caused many women to develop negative images of themselves. Such negative images include, but are not limited to low self-esteem, incompetence, self-doubt, powerlessness, defenselessness and fear of not meeting societal and family expectations of them. These negative images, if left unaddressed could impact a woman's ability to ultimately achieve their personal and professional goals; therefore, it is imperative that women begin to take steps to shatter these negative images and begin to think and act positively.

Harnessing Your Personal Power

There is something to be said about the success of those who harness their personal power and think positively, as opposed to those who think negatively and therefore transmit negativity. In your quest to achieve your personal and professional goals, you must learn to harness your internal personal power. This is a critical component to your success and if you learn to access it and use it, it will greatly improve others perception of you, but most importantly, improve your confidence and how you actually see yourself. Acquiring this new level of positive thinking will separate you from those who continue to think negatively, into one who is taking control of his/her destiny.

If you want to experience positive changes to your life, you must first conquer any negative thoughts, and self-sabotaging behaviors. By accessing your internal personal power, you will begin to reprogram your subconscious to propel you toward achieving success, both personally and professionally.

Believe in Yourself

When striving to reach your goals, no matter how big or small, there is one key characteristic that must exist aside from the usual ability to effectively network, being well-versed in the latest software and technology and your effective communication and organizational skills. This characteristic is unshakeable and unwavering self-belief. Self-belief is defined as, the belief that you can do things well. Most people say that they believe in themselves; however, their actions show otherwise. Your self-confidence/self-belief (or lack thereof) impacts many facets of your life, such as, your school work, your ability to advance at work, the way you speak, the way you walk, the way you dress and even your behavior and mood. Unless you begin to take positive action to build your self-belief, you will continue to feel the negative, destructive effects on various areas of your life, such as, personal and professional relationships, lifestyle and your overall frame of mind.

Developing and Shaping Your Own Subconscious

Ask yourself this question, do you believe, without a doubt, that you can achieve anything that you aspire to, no matter how big the goal(s) seems right now? If you did not answer YES to this question, then you don't believe in yourself and you are right, you will NOT reach your destination. You must know and believe that you can achieve your dreams. Only when you begin to believe, will you have the ability to break free of the fear that binds you and keeps you from reaching your full potential.

The first step in developing and shaping your subconscious is being aware of its power. You can control your subconscious mind by consistently sending positive messages to it. If you send negativity and doubt, you will fail; however, if you believe that you can succeed, you will. Therefore, it is imperative that you begin to send your subconscious positive information about your belief in your ability to accomplish the goal(s) you have set for yourself. It is important to note that positive thinking by itself will not make you an overnight success. You must make changes to how you are living, by getting your mind to work for you, not against you.

One way to accomplish this is to use a proven technique, "using affirmations" (Peden, 1994). The use of affirmations can serve as a great tool, which can help you achieve the success you want and can be applied immediately. It is imperative that you work towards eliminating all of the negative, self-defeating thoughts from your mind in order to achieve the full benefit of this exercise. In order for the affirmations to work, you must commit yourself to using them on a permanent basis. Remember, "Faith without works is dead" (James 2:20).

Utilizing Positive Affirmations

Here are examples of three (3) affirmations that I have previously utilized.

  1. I release all doubt and disbelief about achieving my writing goals.
  2. I magnetically attract positive people who will encourage and support my goals.
  3. I am mastering my personal power and I am using it to become a successful writer.

Affirmations should be repeated several times per day, in order for them to become ingrained in your subconscious. It also helps to develop your own personal affirmations, which directly align with what you want to achieve. Listed below are examples of how you can easily transform three (3) negative beliefs into three (3) positive affirmations.

Turning Negative into Positive

NEGATIVE THOUGHTS

I will never get the promotion I want.

I am acquiring the knowledge and skills necessary to advance at work.

I will never own my own home.

POSITIVE AFFIRMATIONS

I am building the foundation necessary to become a homeowner, by saving money and rebuilding my credit.

I will never start my own Event Planning business.

I am building a successful Event Planning business, by conducting research and developing a plan of action.

By using this concept of transforming negative thoughts into positive affirmations will give you the added internal power you need to initiate immediate changes in your sub-conscious by reversing the years of negative, crippling thoughts. You have incredible potential at your disposal; do not waste your opportunity to begin utilizing your personal power to help you shatter the negative images you have developed of yourself, as well as, unleash the successful person you have kept hidden inside. Remember, "Whether you think you can or you think you can't, you're probably right", Henry Ford.

Fashion Icon Daniel Hernandez Tells All His Source of Inspiration in an Interview With Athena

Daniel Hernandez, one of the premier fashion industry leaders in Boston, tells all his source of inspiration in an interview with Athena. Hernandez says that the secret of achieving his success in the fashion world is persistence. Everyone aspires to achieve his goal. Hernandez says that one should be firm in his desire to excel and should not rest on his laurel. DH, as he is known by this acronym, is a recipient of Alfred Fiandaca Award of Excellence which he considers his most meaningful award since Fiandaca is a very influential designer who has designed clothes for first ladies of the land, a feat unequalled by any designer in history.

DH is so proud of this recognition by a fashion designer in the early part of his career by way of collection he collaborated with his grandmother, and he was sure that before getting his college education he already knew by heart that he was headed for the right direction that will make him known and highly respected leader in the industry. His grandmother has been influential in his design and considers her as his source of power to make things possible because of her unconditional love.

Aside from his beloved grandmother, fashion figures Thierry Mugler and Issey Miyake have been his greatest inspiration to create designs that are fabulous and classic. His latest collections are a combination of practicality and opulence, so uniquely designed for the professional woman who turns her office suit into comfortable attire yet chic and flexible for travel and after office hours.

These collections truly show the variation of woven fabrics like herringbone, tweed and imported gingham. So how will Hernandez describe a DH woman? According to the Bostonian designer whose DH Studios Inc. received the prestigious 2003 SBA Young Entrepreneur Award of New England, that a DH woman is an epitome of an older, powerful woman who strives to be recognized in society and shows that the world we live in is not only ruled by man but by a woman too, who knows what her purpose and role in the community.

A DH woman is a dreamer and an accomplished member of society. She enjoys life to the fullest, and strives hard to achieve her dreams in life. DH likes to let hardworking women who value family and they are also the boss in their place of work. Now that his documentary is in the offing, his other goal is divided into two segments, perhaps opening his Second Street level site or maybe relaunch the e-commerce site and will issue press releases after his fashion week in the fall of 2012.

Life has indeed been good to DH, what more could he ask for? His business continues to thrive in the international scene. In 2010, DH Studios won its first global competition and bested more than 800 competitors from twelve countries. It also became the big winner of Justproud.com, paving the way to create its premier international collection primarily sold in Holland, New York and Shanghai.

The Undoing of the Women's Movement

In the last decade, I see an alarming slide backward toward "females as sex objects" thanks to the distasteful fashion of showing, in some cases to extreme, one's cleavage. I am a member of the "transitional" generation, that is, one of those women, born and raised in the 40's and 50's, when women were treated as sex objects, who struggled to be free from the shackles of societal expectations that the "little woman's" only legitimate role was to marry, and produce children. IF a woman had to work, only nursing, teaching and retail sales were considered appropriate, lady-like occupations. Those were the days when birth control was so iffy that you had to get married to have sex. Out-of-wedlock pregnancies often resulted in being sent to Aunt Mary out west or the Unwed Mothers Home.

But then the birth control pill hit the market in the 60's and girls everywhere began to rebel against all those societal straight jackets and began to have fun not only with boys but with the idea of having careers that fitted their own natural talents and aptitudes. Nursing, teaching and sales were still great choices but not the only choices.

However, in the last decade, since arriving in the 21st century, I see an alarming slide backward toward "females as sex objects" thanks to the fashion of showing, in some cases to extreme, one's cleavage. Of course Marilyn and Jane did it in the 50's but they were movie stars and everyone knew that was part of their job... to be sexual bombshells. But today, every female seems to want to get in on this fashion trend. I have seen women who are very large in every part of their anatomy pushing baby strollers in halter tops that barely "halt anything" turning every head in the crowd as they pass. I guess that was the point of course... to get attention.

And I see young teens wearing push up bras trying to appear to have more chest development then their young years have had time to produce. I even turned on PBS not long ago to a cooking show and there was the hostess, her barely contained, dangling breasts suspended only inches above the pot on the stove. The camera man had clearly forgotten he was supposed to be focusing on the food on the stove and not on those barely covered orbs. Young women, middle age grandmothers and old women are now bearing as much as they can. To my eyes and sensibilities, this trend is not only in poor taste it is actually detrimental to all women, for men love breasts and are naturally going to be distracted by them while hearing not a word the woman says.

This is my real issue with this fashion of showing cleavage... women are turning themselves back into sexual objects and all the fighting many of us did to get men to actually listen to us and take note of our very good brains, is being subtly but substantially undermined. Ladies, do you really want that? Is the momentary satisfaction of being stared at or the momentary delusion of being "desired," really worth this price? I guess you can't answer that if you were born after the 1960's because you never knew what it was like to be expected to be less than you were so men could feel more, and you were not sent away for having sex (and its consequences) before it was socially permitted (being married.) Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it. For some of us it is hard to watch.

How Side Support Bra Can Enhance Your Figure

The standard bra consists of three parts: the band that goes around the chest, the cups that protect the breasts, and the shoulder straps to hold the cups upright. Contrary to what is often supposed, it is the chest band and the cups that support the breasts, not the straps that go over the shoulders. The straps are there only to keep the cups in the correct position; otherwise you'll never find any strapless bras.

Over the years, from the time the bra was invented, many different styles, forms and makes have been created to answer the needs of different breast configurations. Bra forms may be as few as five to as many as 30 (or even more?) depending on who makes the counting and how he determines the differences of one form from the others. Sometimes function is the basis in differentiating the styles, so you may get support, lift, nursing, sports bras and so on. Of course there are likewise combinations like the side support bra that provides a specific function, that of preventing the breast from 'spilling over' sideways.

Side support bras have rather large side panels that push in the breast's sides, effectively preventing it from partially blocking the arm's movement when swung. At the same time this design eliminates the tendency of the breast to form another bulge over the side of the cups if the breast if too big for the cups, and pushes the breast inwards for a better cleavage as well. Some side support bras are also furnished with underwires that round-form the cups and make the breasts appear more youthful, while still others dispense with the underwire but achieve the same effects via pre-formed seamed cups.

Naturally, there are different designs of side support bras from even the same bra manufacturer, and priced variously also. There are differences in form, materials, cut and purpose/s, and one side support bra may perform several functions. One side support bra design, for instance, is underwired for better form retention, has small elastic bands in the cup tops for better fit, floral embroidery in the cups for greater feminine feeling, side reinforcement for uplift and shape, seamless so it will not be obvious under the clothes, and other features.

But because people differ also in build and physical characteristics, no side support bra is appropriate for every woman who may want to use one. Furthermore, not one side support bra has been designed to be appropriate for all types of clothes, so if you wish to use one according to your preferences, you will need to search diligently for it. Trial and error is the usual way, where you have to try on various designs to choose from them.

The Back Support Bra Eases Upper Back Pains

If you frequently get neck and upper back pains even if it is not your period, and you're sure you are not hypertensive, then you might have a posture problem. Posture problems develop when the spine is often misaligned due to body position while working, frequent crouching, or simply bad posture habits. Most times the incorrect stance is assumed unconsciously, but a few women deliberately assume it for various reasons.

Sometimes, however, the incorrect posture is the result of an unconscious stance engendered by, say, large breasts, though women with smaller breasts may also suffer this pain. The person slouches or slumps because it is just more comfortable doing so, to compensate for the heavy front load. This crouching or slumping in turn strains the upper back and neck muscles and pain results after sometime. An inch of forward positioning of the head can increase muscle strain by several factors, which can be unnoticed initially.

To help support your breasts and reduce neck and upper back muscle strains, a back support bra is recommended by professionals. The back support bra supports your breasts and thus eases the back and neck pains by correcting your posture little by little. The touch of the bra straps over your shoulder and at your back will remind you to straighten up when you assume the incorrect stance or slouches. This way you can correct your posture and relieve your pain.

Not only that, back support bras help you support the breasts so you don't feel their weight much, which is carried more by the bra straps that the breast muscles, minimizing the tendency to appear sagging. It also improves the appearance very much, paired with the right kind of dress or clothes.

Back support bras usually have wide shoulder straps ---probably lined with softer fabric-- to distribute weight to a wider area and prevent chafing and strap line marks; wide, reinforced back straps, and full cups. Back support bras may have padding added to the cups and straps, several hooks at the back or underwired front closures to help support the breasts, depending on the style, several of which may be available at your store.

Back support bras are easily concealed or disguised by wearing certain kinds of clothes or combinations. For instance, a mock-neck sleeveless shirt may be worn under long sleeved clothes. Roll up the sleeves to the length you want. Also, you can choose black back support bras under any closed dress, bright-colored tee-shirt, or shirts with regular or cap sleeves. Otherwise, you can layer your clothes with wraps and shrugs, or wear black tankers, clipping the tank top to the bra.

Back support bras are both functional and fashionable, and it is a wise move to consider using them to relieve upper back and neck pains caused by incorrect posture. Although they are not panacea to those problems, still it can help while giving you a better over-all physical figure. It should be worth the try even for that reason alone.

Will the Real Housewives Please Stand UP

Very recently I began to watch The Real Housewives of New York. I was appalled at the way they women treated one another. The worst part, they claimed to be friends. Their negative attitudes go on for episode after episode. They are always on the attack, and nothing is sacred. Out of curiosity I watched several of the other Real Housewives, O.C, New Jersey, Miami, and Atlanta. I watched mainly to see if any one of the women had any redeeming qualities. I looked closely at each woman, and unfortunately, I didn't find any. They lacked honesty, morals, and mostly integrity. They have very poor communications skills, and hear what they "want" to hear. Perhaps it is all said and done for the sake of ratings, and let's not forget the money they make for exposing or portraying themselves in such a negative way. Sorry to say, in many cases, the husbands are just as bad. One theme seems to follow throughout the shows I have watched. They don't allow their children to be on the shows, and if so, it is very briefly.

I struggle with the fact that they call themselves "housewives," unlike any housewife I have ever known. Perhaps I am old school, and don't keep up with the trends. The housewives I know from my childhood, and once a housewife myself, tend to be women who rise early to get their children off to school. They fix breakfast, bag lunches, check homework, attend soccer practice, and other sports. Some participate on PTA and other committees. They fix dinner and do the laundry, they listen to the kids and husbands talk about their day. In some cases they work outside of the home. Pretty much exhausted at the end of the day, they get up and do it all over again. You know the women I am talking about, and you're probably one of them. These are the real homemakers that help keep the wheels of America turning. And what is their thanks? A tv show depicting wealthy women at their worst. I am not against wealthy women, its just that these particular women are very unattractive, and its the behavior that makes them so.

The ladies, and I use that term loosley, are pretty much cookie cutter in their looks and attire. Usually long blonde, or dark Farrah type hair with extensions, false eyelashes, breast implants, plumped up lips, nose jobs, tummy tucks, fake nails, in some cases extremely thin bodies. How do I know this? They talk openly about these things, and other things I can pretty much figure out for myself. These are not the things that make a woman beautiful. Somebody please tell me, where does the real part come in? Thankfully, they don't represent real housewives. I live in a pretty large city and I see real housewives and women everyday who are beautiful and could walk rings around the tv divas.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with being a housewife or a single homemaker.. The truth is, housewives are running a corporate entity, they do it all. Budgeting, maintaining a facilty (the home), car and transportation maintenance, coaching for her children (in life skills) and sometimes the spouse, maintaining and enhancing everyone's self-esteem at all times. These women give back spiritually and emotionally, and they nuture the women of the future.

We have a huge task ahead of us. The reality shows in too many cases show us married or single) at our worst. We must keep the lines of communications open to our young women. This "in your face" mentality is cruel on so many levels. It is as if they take pride in denigrating one another, with personal and physical attacks, and name calling. Will you real housewives please stand up and talk with your daughters, nieces, and granddaughters, keep it real? Stress the fact that these show are purely for entertainment purposes, mind numbing dribble, and nothing more. To emulate their behaviors only drags us down.

Kudos to "real housewives, and real women everywhere."

2012 Fall Trends to Watch For

Top designers debut their edgy, new styles during fashion week early in the year so that by the time fall comes around, these sought-after trends trickle down to shops and online stores where they're usually more affordable. Here are a few things to look out for when shopping for your fall wardrobe.

Leather and Lace

Leather can be a pretty intimidating fabric. Leather shoes and purses is one thing, but wearing it on your body is another thing entirely. Don't be fooled into thinking you'll look like a dominatrix, the fall pieces showcased were incredibly elegant and classy. It's leather in a whole new way that voices femininity without being overly sexual.

Hunter Green

This earthy, woodsy color is a rich addition to your wardrobe. It pairs perfectly with denim and other blue-shaded accent pieces. Another trending color palette is gem tones; think rubies, sapphires and emeralds. Gem tones blend perfectly with hunter green creating a chic statement.

Mismatched Textures and Patterns

This trend is so fun and forbidden. I always thought it was some cardinal rule of fashion to never match stripes and polka dots, but it seems that fashion week has the power to overthrow these notions. Mismatching patterns with complementing color schemes come off fun and inventive. Joining in on this theme of incompatibility is textures. Feminine pieces made of silk, cotton and even tweed can harmonize together within a single outfit if layered properly.

Peplums

A peplum is just a fancy way of saying an elongated hem or 'overskirt.' They are those little ruffled or puffed areas in coats or tops that make your waist appear to widen giving pronounced curves. While this look is adorable on slimmer bodies, I wouldn't think it has the same effect on fuller figures, but I could be wrong. Peplums may actually help to camouflage bulgy areas in your mid-section.

Faux Fur

Fur and faux fur made an appearance in fashion week, peeking out with subtle hints of sophistication. I am not a fan of real fur because of personal reasons rooted in my love for animals, but damn does it make an outfit pop!

Oversized coats

Now this trend is really only something I see working for women with model-like figures. Though it does look overwhelmingly classy and chic on the runway, I can't help but imagining myself looking thirty pounds heavier.

Brocades and Embellishments

Brocades remind me of fancy tapestries and renaissance fashions, but the pieces I saw in fashion week, were nothing of the sort. Bold representations in tops and matching bottoms demonstrate continuity and sheer elegance. Heavily embellished garments are over-the-top, but glamorous. Want to stand out? Include the shimmering embroidery of brocade or a dazzling, studded, ornate piece and I promise, no one will have a hard time spotting you.

Continuing Trends

Color blocking has yet to fade out of style, so recycle some of your old outfits. Leopard print is also hanging onto the coattails of these new fall trends, worn sparingly with other pieces.

5 Reasons Why Losing Heart Is Not an Option

Romancing the Stone, Mission Impossible, and James Bond are some of my favorite action movies. The one thing that I notice in all these films is that the hero is always facing insurmountable odds while searching and fighting for some priceless treasure.

Our movie characters aren't too different from us. We may not be fighting for billions in gold, or priceless buried treasure, but our treasure is just as important. It may be a prayer for an unsaved spouse, freedom from a health issue, or a wayward child. Whatever it is, it can certainly feel insurmountable, causing us to lose heart from the battle.

In 2 Corinthians 4:7, Paul talks about treasure too--- a different kind of treasure. He goes on to explain why once we have it, losing heart is not an option. And instead of our having to search for it, Paul tells us where it's hidden, in jars of clay (us), as not to distract from its value and worth. What's the treasure? It's Christ in us, the hope of glory, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge (Colossians 2:3).

What does that have to do with the problem of losing heart? Plenty, and if we look at verses 8-9 we'll get it. In these verses, Paul tells us what we can expect as we face the trials of life, he says we'll be hard pressed, crushed, and struck down. He totally gets it.

But then in verse 16, he kills the moment by saying that we shouldn't lose heart! He says our trials are only light and momentary afflictions. Really? This is from the guy who was beaten, shipwrecked, and flogged. How could he say this? Because he knew a few secrets about "the treasure" that are key to not losing heart. Consider this:

· The treasure is worth the fight
Paul knew an abiding relationship with Christ would bear the fruit of wisdom and knowledge, equipping us for the battle. No treasure is more valuable or worth fighting for.

· Grace is only for today
Believers will always face hardships. We are under a death system. But our heavenly Father gives us grace moment by moment that will always reveal resurrection power.

· Change your perspective
Don't deny your circumstances, but look for ways to speak life into them.

· Renew the mind daily
Our outer man is decaying, our inner man is to be experiencing daily renewal through the washing of the word in our hearts. Be intentional about setting your mind on the truth, and seeking God with all your heart.

· Focus on eternal glory
If we focus on what is seen it will be easy to lose heart. Be intentional about setting your mind on what is unseen and imperishable.

Digging for treasure isn't something we should leave to our action hero's. It's something we can practice daily by following the steps outlined above. They'll help us to drive our treasure deep, making losing heart seem like a mission impossible.

Insomnia in Menopause Linked to Estrogen Decline and Mineral Deficiency

Women in the pre-menopause and menopause years are more and more finding themselves experiencing symptoms of chronic insomnia, hot flashes, night sweats, migraine headaches, anxiety, fatigue and depression. Uzzi Reiss, M.D., author of Natural Hormone Balance for Women, says: "Some of the above reactions occur nearly simultaneously whenever the level of estrogen falls."

Hormone drugs, nutritional remedies, and lifestyle changes are some of the options available to women. Consumer Affairs.com reports that while 70 percent of women entering menopause will have some symptoms, most symptoms can be managed with healthy lifestyle improvements. In their recent report, they do not recommend hormone drugs for women who have an elevated risk of heart disease, stroke or cancer - which is 35 to 50 percent of all women 50 and older.

As menopause approaches, another emerging link between estrogen decline and its symptoms is the aspect of mineral deficiency. Mildred Seeling, M.D. describes this in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition. She says "Estrogen enhances magnesium utilization and uptake by soft tissues and bone, and may explain the resistance of young women to heart disease and osteoporosis -- as well as the increased prevalence of these diseases when estrogen production ceases."

Magnesium works best when it's balanced with calcium. The pioneering nutritionist Adelle Davis writes of mineral deficiency during menopause in her book "Let's Get Well." Davis says: "Calcium is less well absorbed and the urinary losses are greater when the output of estrogen decreases. Such calcium-deficiency symptoms as nervousness, irritability, insomnia, and headaches are common."

Chronic insomnia is one of the main symptoms of magnesium deficiency. Sleep in magnesium deficiency is usually agitated with frequent nighttime awakenings. On the other hand, a high magnesium diet has been found to be associated with deeper, less interrupted sleep. This was shown in a study done by James Penland at the Human Nutrition Research Center in North Dakota.

Regarding the use of a sleep remedy for the relief of insomnia and other menopause symptoms, certain formulas may be more effective than others. The formulation of the calcium and magnesium and the presence of vitamin co-factors (such as vitamin D and zinc) in the product are key. Formulas should contain a 2 to 1 ratio of calcium to magnesium. The original research on this recommended ratio appeared in 1935 in the Journal of Physiological Reviews. In addition, a softgel form is more digestible and more rapidly assimilated than tablets or capsules.

Natural insomnia remedies for sleep are gaining popularity with menopausal women. Adelle Davis says: "During the menopause... high amounts of calcium should be obtained and every step be taken to insure its absorption into the blood. When these precautions are taken and the diet is adequate in other respects, the woman at menopause usually loses her irritability, hot flashes, night sweats, leg cramps, insomnia, and mental depression."

Consumer Reports advises that hormone drugs can increase the risk of heart disease, breast cancer, blood clots and stroke. An increasing number of women are turning to non-pharmaceutical remedies for insomnia. Highly absorbable forms of natural minerals can be a soothing alternative.

The Meaning of Mother's Day, and Discovering Mothering

The hand that rocks the cradle is the hand that rules the world. -W.R. Wallace

I first sat down to write this article intending it to be about the history of Mother's Day, thinking there must be some deeper historical meaning, beyond an annual trip to Hallmark or call to the florist. But research quickly reveals it is mostly a 'hallmark' holiday. Annual recognition of this day started in the U.S., around 1908. Although some say it's origins can be traced back further, to the U.K., from the days when servants (often young kids) lived with and worked for wealthy families 6 days a week - but Sunday - or "Mothering Day" was one Sunday a year that the child servant could return home to mother.

After this glimpse behind the Hallmark curtain, I went to Plan B, and I thought I would write an article about the world's Great Motherhood Spiritual Traditions, quoting history's spiritual leaders, etc. But interestingly, it turns out that motherhood has not been a major topic of the modern world's great spiritual leaders and teachers. There are a lot of references to special women, like the Virgin Mary, Hindu or Buddhist Deities, and even Greek Goddesses, etc., but not a lot of rich information on Motherhood.

Except one reference from Ohiyesa, a Dakota Indian, kept coming back and standing out. Ohiyesa - also known as Charles Alexander Eastman - wrote a book called "Soul of the Indian" in the early 1900's to give voice to the spiritual vision and ways of the Native American people. His book provides many references to both the sacredness of Mother Earth and to the intertwined importance of the role of the mother in their society. (Ohiyesa had many accomplishments, among them; he was a physician, lecturer, Native American activist, help to found the Boy Scouts, and received a degree from Dartmouth in 1887, and an M.D. from Boston University in 1880.)

Ohiyesa wrote this about Motherhood:

The Moral Strength of Women

In the woman is vested the standard of morals of our people. She is the silent but telling power behind all of life's activities...Possessed of true feminine dignity and modesty, she is expected to be the equal of her mate in physical endurance and skill, and to share equally in the arduous duties of daily life. But she is superior in spiritual insight. She is the spiritual teacher of the child, as well as its tender nurse, and she brings its developing soul into the world. It is her responsibility to endow her child with nature's gifts and powers, for we believe that from the moment of conception...it is her spiritual influence that matters most.

There is nothing artificial about her person, and very little insincerity in her character.... She is, in fact the moral salvation of our people.

And Ohiyesa's writings are not dissimilar to really early (Paleolithic and Neolithic) beliefs, which reference great respect for the Clan Mother, or Earth Mother, and Great Females, who give birth to humans and all other beings and things, who is responsible for the cycles of nature, and on whom we all depend on our life. It seems that prior to the introduction of our modern, organized religions, women and mothers, were honored and revered for our unique feminine power. (In fact, there's plenty a PH.D paper on the web making the case that the men who wrote our modern Bibles intentionally left out this ancient wisdom, but that's another topic...)

Today, it IS clear that we have lost the power of the mother. When you look at our culture and media, there is no question why bullying has come in (even look at our presidential debates.) Consider climate change, our wars, and the male domination in everything from video games to the sports we play. There is obviously an absence of the mothering intuition and female spirituality in our culture because we stopped living and teaching our essence.

Perhaps the Feminist Movement did move us off course. When we put on our suits and marched into the meeting room, we followed men into THEIR way of being. We can be more successful at work - and at home - by reclaiming our deep spiritual feminine power, and our natural connection to Mother Earth and her cycles. The world would be well-served if we put our female intuitive - or mothering way of being - back into power, to build up our families, and to teach men (and especially our male leaders) our way of being. It's our collective intuition to care for others, for the world, and for this planet.

As Ohiyesa wrote, in the 1800's, this is a massive responsibility, but it is our nature. And as the Dali Lama said in 2009, "The world will be saved by the western woman."

Happy Mother's Day to everyone out there Mothering - a way of being in the world, of nurturing and cultivating the highest within you, so that you can bring that to your family, your friends, and the planet.

Handbags for All Occasions - Choosing Your Perfect Bag

Almost every woman these days wears a handbag as both fashion accessory and a way to carry their essential items. With purses, phones, lipsticks, keys, diaries, notepads, tablets, tissues, pens and all sorts of other things to see them through the day, it is a wonder that ladies are not laden down with massive shopper totes all the time!

So how do women find the perfect handbags for the various events their days are filled with?

It all starts with the most favourite of females' past-times: shopping. Women heading out with the intention of buying a new handbag, whether with the intention of finding a match for their newest outfits or a luxury accessory from the top-name designers, will often return home with several bags, 'just in case'. Not to mention purses to match!

And who can blame them - with various handbags in all shapes, sizes, designs and fabrics, from the world leading top fashion houses such as Gucci, Prada and Fendi right through to high street bargains, and cowhide and leather to silk and cotton, it's no wonder that women own dozens of handbags.

Even the ones that cost less can be just as stylish and on-trend, and demand and desire for the style and look of the catwalk bags quickly filters down.

If you are on the hunt for a new handbag, it pays to have a comparison of the various fabrics and designs.

Totes are a popular option for style-conscious women with rather a lot to carry round. They can be relatively inexpensive too, so it's not unusual to have several totes to go with a variety of outfits or for different occasions.

Designer leather handbags are right at the top end of the market, and give women with the cash to splash the chance to show off the very latest stylish accessories. Leather is hardwearing, so although the cost may seem high, women can get years of life out of a quality designer bag.

Satchels are not just for school girls these days - cute and bright they are a playful bag and among the trendiest around. Not too big, but with plenty of pockets for all your bits, they're practical and stylish.

For parties or a special event, the clutch bag is a good option. Just big enough for purse, keys, lippie and phone, they are often highly decorated and embellished and make a real statement. They can be matched to your outfit too for the ultimate custom look in accessories.

And then we have everything from hobo bags, which are comfortable to carry and feel incredibly helpful as you can get everything but the kitchen sink inside, to boxy purses and everything in between.

And of course, many of these styles of handbags come in all types of fabric, from leather and other animal skins to cotton, silk, plastic and wood. These days there are no limits to what a handbag can be made from, or what it can look like.

Women love all types of handbags, and they are far more than a practical item or must-have fashion piece; they are a staple part of the wardrobe and possibly the most important thing a woman has in her possession. Many vary their handbag weekly or even daily and carry one whenever they leave the house. The only problem is how to decide which one to be seen with today?

You will be spoiled for choice on all.

Your invitations should excite and inspire your guests and convey all of your feelings about Italy, but how do you squeeze all that into an envelope and create the perfect Italian invitation? Well here's how...

A good first step would be choosing a creative stationer that understands your requirements and is open to tailoring their designs to suit you. Through your invitations, you will doubtless want to convey your love for your chosen venue, and whet your guests' appetites for the adventure you have planned. You could start by considering what Italy means to you. Is it a slightly rusted but charming 1960s Fiat 500 nestling in a Roman side street? Or maybe some awe-inspiring classical architecture? A sculpture, a fresco or church? Perhaps it is a memory; the vivid colours of a sunset, the sweet taste of your first limoncello or the golden glow of Tuscan sunflowers. Capture this in your wedding stationery and your guests will be counting down the days!

It's wonderful to show your guests all of the spectacular sights and experiences that your wedding will bring before they even reach for their passports! Search online for Italian portfolios and images as a starting point..

Once you have your theme, which can be continued through to your order of service, place cards and table plan, you can turn your attention to penning the details of your 'Invito di Matrimonio'. You'll be creating something that sets the tone for your special day, and, if you find one page just isn't enough, why not create your very own wedding booklet? A well considered wedding booklet will be something special for your guests to treasure, a point of reference for them, and a piece that they will want to read again and again. It'ur wedding will bring before they even reach for their passports!

Make your guests feel like VIP's

You will know the area better than many of your guests so you may want to offer some helpful advice on travel, accommodation, where to eat & drink, and the local 'must see sights'. Useful e-mail addresses and websites will make the job of planning their trip much easier and we guarantee that your guests will be grateful for your going the extra mile.

Health and Beauty Benefits You Take Home From the Beach

There's nothing like spending a long, beautiful day at the beach. It's really the only place where you're encouraged to lie around and do absolutely nothing. Though you may feel mildly guilty for enjoying your perfectly unproductive day, put what little worries you had to rest and know that the beach is a wonderful place to maintain your health.

Sun
Though it's a valid and often necessary precaution to cover yourself from head to toe with sunscreen, the sun's rays are actually a vital element in maintaining and even improving your overall quality of health. Through the sun, we are able to receive our daily dose of vitamin D, considered an essential component in strengthening our immune system. Vitamin D is so crucial to our health that a deficiency can result in illnesses like cancer, autism, heart disease, arthritis and osteoporosis. By spending ten to fifteen in the sun without any sun protection, you can reduce inflammation, increase the amount of red blood cells in your body, and stimulate the production of natural brain chemicals. Sun exposure promotes an increase of serotonin and endorphins, making you feel happier and energized. Melatonin is also increased, allowing you to sleep better. This totally explains why a day at the beach is so enjoyable, yet exhausting at the end of the day!

In addition to these great health benefits, your skin will also look fantastic. Limited, but daily, sun exposure will make your skin appear to glow with a touch of color.

Sea
Sure, swimming in the ocean is optional when going to the beach, but here are few reasons why you should just dive in. Cooler water is exhilarating and great for circulation. It can help to ease sore muscles and assist with inflammation, which is great for people who suffer from arthritis. While the ocean is filled with all kinds of critters, it is also chock full of minerals. Minerals, like iodine, boost thyroid function in your body, bettering your immune system. They also have detoxifying qualities, which may help improve certain skin disorders.

If this wasn't enough, ocean water is also an amazing all-natural replacement for clarifying shampoos! All you need to do it dip your head in ocean, swirl it around and voila! The salty water helps to cut down on any build up that may have formed from hair products or natural oils.

Sand
Walking barefoot on the beach is just about one of the best things you can do for your body. For one thing, it makes for great exercise. Walking on the sand helps to tone muscles in the legs as well as increase circulation, strengthen your bones and decrease blood pressure. The sand also works to massage the soles of your feet, soothing aches and pains while also promoting lymphatic circulation.

Sand also doubles as an excellent exfoliating treatment for your skin. Next time your sitting down on the beach, just grab a handful of sand and rub it over your arms or legs to eliminate any dead skin.

Take Advantage of Sales

Not everyone is rich. Most people are just earning an average income. You just can't afford to spend too much money on everything. Successful Women in Business - Learn From Their Examples

Successful women are something to behold! Because you have to know that she has suffered. I know several women that are highly successful and there are several things that they have in common.

One is they don't think of themselves as just being a woman, what I mean by that is, they don't put limitations on themselves, "I'm weaker than a man", "I'm not as smart as a man" "I can't do what a man does". Duh, of course we don't have the physical strength of a man, but where is it written that we don't have the same brain capacity?

Some will say the Bible, but have never been able to show me the verse, Jesus valued women very much, so let's not make any excuses for using our brain.Successful women realize that they can achieve anything that they put their mind to.

I have a friend that wanted to leave the corporate world and start her own cake business from home, her family and friends told her she was crazy, but she was tired of the daily commute, stress and living for the weekend, she wanted more quality time for herself and her family, so she quit her nice cushy joy and worked out of her kitchen for six months then opened a shop, she made her first million in two years, she took a chance on her dream, notice (she took a chance), she did not let what others thought stop her.

Another friend is a person I truly admire, because she had to start all over again with nothing at the age of 61, she did not know what she was going to do but she did not want to end up begging or going on welfare. She loves writing, and though she had never written anything professional she had written poetry over the years for her own pleasure, and been told by many that her poems were strong just like her personality, so she became a successful writer!

So what is the principle here? Believe in yourself. Every successful woman believes in herself. Having the right attitude is everything if you want to live life on your terms and not someones else's. Are you willing to be different? Most women are just fine, working the nine to five and most of your friends may tell you, that you have a great job so why rock the boat? You have to make a stand for yourself.

Another quality that a successful woman has is she competes with herself not others, she does not compare herself to another person because she knows that there is always someone doing it better, that's just a fact of life. She challenges herself to do better at whatever she's good at. She does not blame others for her failures, when she fails, she thinks it over. She ask herself questions, "what could I have done better"? is one of the major one's, it is never because of what someone else did, she knows that she is in charge of the things that go on in her life. She is not a complainer. She is too busy creating a her life. She knows that to complain is a downer, negative, she wants no part of that.

A successful woman is not overly critical of herself or others, she knows where to draw the line when having to counsel someone else or critique herself, it's not for tearing down but to transform to a higher level. She never gossips about others, if she can't say it to the person face to face, she keeps her mouth shut. If she makes a promise and finds that it is going to inconvenience her to keep the promise, she keeps it anyway (if she can).

A successful woman is never petty, her mindset is expansive, she truly believes that there is enough abundance in life for all to share and when another woman is successful, she is happy for her, and even better than that, if there is anything that she can do to help the other woman be even more successful, the she is willing to help. When she succeeds, she reaches out with a helping hand, to help others up, mentally, physically, and materially. She is happy when others are happy. To truly succeed in her eyes is to first, take care of her health, in all areas of her life, she knows that she can not really be of benefit to anyone if she is not in good shape herself. This woman is the kind of person that knows when to rest, and when to keep on. How about you?

Arab Women - Past and Future

Women have always been effective leaders in the field of education and cultural activities for ever. They have proved their might in the field of producing academic, fictional, non-fictional and cultural activities. Although not much literature is available on the achievements of women in these fields, there are some positive endeavourers being made to acknowledge the importance of women in current developments. Their contribution to the literature, as writers, is obvious though. Women have been involved in creative writing from very old time in fact. They have been contributed to the journals, newspapers, and magazines of repute. The difference is that they used to publish their works hid under the garb of male names. History has it that Egyptian women used to write in men journals in the 1880s, and by 1890 there were many young women from Arabian middle class who were publishing their own journals and news papers. They mainly hailed from Egypt, Lebanon and Syria. The first journal was published in 1892 by Hind Nawfal. It was in 1914, when another popular magazine 'Fatat Lubnan', which translates as 'girl of Lebanan' was launched by Salima Abu Rashid. This was an attempt to boost morale of Arabian young women and was appreciated very much for the purpose.

Salima was committed to promote womanhood, and oppose corruption and defy oppression during the period. Another crusader in the list is Ajamy who initiated an attempt to literate Arabian women in the form of a Women's Literacy Club in the same year, i.e. 1914. Julia Dimashqiya also joined the rally in 1921 by launching an exclusive women magazine in the name of al-Mar'a al-Jadida which means New Women. The magazine was first started in Beirut, and was solely devoted to urge the Arabian women to come ahead and take part in the social development for their own betterment. Another magazine namely Al-Fajr was launched in the same year by another women activist Najla Abu al-Lam'. Najla focused her efforts to bring new research works and studies in the knowledge of Arabian women and encourage them to make action. Al-Fajr means 'Dawn' which this magazine was meant to bring. Nur al-Fayha, which means Light of Damascus, was launched by Nazik Abid with the purpose to highlight the discrimination as a root cause of national problems in the region. The motto was to promote equality and encourage the women. There were more and many similar developmental moves initiated by the women in Arab society and which played an important role in bringing the morale of the women up.

Recently there have been launched some websites, akin to electronic versions of yesterday's magazines, which are taking the same crusade ahead with more interactive manner. These websites are sharing the information about global position of the women and providing Arab women a platform to represent themselves globally through online media. These websites are offering free memberships to the women and offering them a way to share their views with the world. These websites too are encouraging women to know their rights and get them.

How to Be Feminine

Just visit the ladies section of any department store and you will see many women trying to buy femininity. This is such a sad sight, as most women today lack the fundamental skills required to know how to be feminine.

Similarly, have you ever gone out and bought a set of paints and a canvas, believing that these external possessions will somehow bring out the artist in you?

Femininity is an internal talent existing within most people. Like any talent, it sits within us, patiently waiting for us to nurture it, train it, and then give it a means to express itself.

Firstly, we need to recognise the femininity which already exists in a raw form within us and acknowledge that this is a powerful gift that we already possess. We know it is there, because we feel its magnetic pull upon our life. We give honor to this part of us which can lead us to a feeling of inner peace and full expression of our true nature.

Secondly, we need to understand that all natural talent requires nurturing and training. It is a raw talent which can be finely tuned to provide us with our deepest desires. Through such training, we can experience the fulfilment that we are finally becoming the woman that we were meant to be.

Thirdly, we then seek expression of this feminine nature in the world. This may be through clothing, relationships, art, gardening, and even business interactions. Because we are now operating from a powerful source within us that is trained to reach its full potential, we are calmer, more confident, and sleep each night knowing that we are truly sharing our gift with the world.

It is the second stage of this emergence of our feminine nature which is sadly forgotten. Women feel their femininity and then instantly seek to exercise it, in the same way that they purchase objects believing that this will bring them closer to the expression of their talent. This leads to much disappointment, when they realise that a true gift needs to be nurtured and trained before it can reach its fullest expression.

If you have a talent, if you can recognise the feminine within you, you must then seek to train and educate this beauty within you. There are people out there who can guide you on your journey as you learn how to be feminine.

Feeling Young When There Are Bald Men All Around You

The other day, I was talking to a young woman in her 30s, and she had just come from the gym and she claimed that she had lost 25 pounds and was on a diet. Excellent and good for her as she is taking the bull by the horns, and perhaps saving me as a taxpayer for her future health care costs or diabetes medicine. I'm glad to see it, and she is looking better than she did before, at least this was her assertion. Then, someone else mentioned; "you look like you've lost weight," and she said that she had. So I have no reason to doubt her.

Her strategy was quite good. She had limited her sweet tooth cravings, changed her diet, and was now exercising every day. She said she knew she was looking better because now men at the gym are looking at her more while she's working out, she said she's not used to people looking at her as much, and she knows something has changed, so she is feeling better about herself. Previously, she would just work out in her own little world and not worry about it.

She also noted that she was tired of all the older bald men looking at her, not because she has anything against bald man, but because it makes her feel old when there are lots of bald men around her. She says they are at her work, at the gym, and the men in her family and life. She knows she can't just all of a sudden change all the men in her life because it doesn't work that way. She said that it was difficult for her to remember, that she was only 30.

Many of the men she had previously dated, and those at work were over 30, and most of them had very little hair left, or extremely receding hairlines. She is now determined that she will not date anyone over 30, and only men with lots of hair. Still she realizes this may be impossible, so she is concentrating on feeling good about herself and looking young, and she realizes the younger she looks, the more looks she will get from in both older and younger, fat and skinny, and bald or hairy men.

Now she is determined to feel young from the inside, rather than allowing her visual memory to suggest that she too is getting old. Indeed, I thought this was funny because being 30 years old, well, that isn't that old at all, she is still very young. And now she knows it, and that's a good thing. Indeed I hope you will please consider all this and think on it.

Evolution of an Aging Woman

Michelle was a size five in high school. She weighed one-hundred ten pounds and was quite athletic. In addition to being the head cheerleader of her Southern High Cougars cheerleading squad, Michelle played tennis and volleyball. In her free time, she could often be found running 5K road races in less than nineteen minutes where she would win trophies to add to the growing collection of shiny brass that adorned the shelves above her bedroom desk.

But that was ten years ago. During the decade's days that dashed by in a seeming dream since high school graduation, Michelle had realized the thwarting reality of the forewarned "freshman fifteen". She had experienced firsthand, the havoc that carrying a nine pound baby boy could create, and her tennis shoes had not touched a tennis court or running course in more time than she could recall. Michelle's emotions meandered around a maze that muddled the images of who she was ten years ago versus who she is today, as she tried to determine a course that would lead her to who she wanted to be.

Michelle was no longer a one-hundred ten pound athlete with an abundance of spare time to spend traveling to weekend road races where she could bring home the gold. Instead, she was a one-hundred fifty pound single mom who worked two jobs and felt fully fatigued when her feet finally found the front door of her brick ranch haven. Michelle was tired, depleted of energy, and unhappy with the person who had evolved from pleated cheer leading skirts to elastic waist pants. She was knocking on thirty's door and she wanted to make sure that when it opened, a healthier, happier human was on the other side to greet it.

Focused and determined, Michelle made a plan. She established goals that were measurable and achievable, and she resolved to attain them in a realistic time frame. Michelle adopted a "no excuses" mantra and revisited it often, especially on early mornings when her alarm clock's snooze button looked much more desirable than a Tone Zone dvd, or when a frosted, flaky pastry seemed to appeal to her palette much more than an egg white omelet with tomatoes and spinach. Michelle disciplined herself to stay the course, stick with her plan and continue visualizing the woman she wanted to be even before she knew her.

Her newly adopted regimen of eating healthfully and exercising, extended well past the proven sixty-six days it takes to form a new habit. Michelle loved her new-found energy, adored her younger wardrobe, and took pride in the appearance of a woman twenty pounds lighter smiling back at her from her full length mirror three and a half months after she decided to make a positive change in her life. In her head, Michelle knew she may never again be the hundred ten pound cheerleader jumping from the top of the pyramid into the arms of fellow squad members. But in her heart, Michelle jumped with the joy daily of knowing that she did not have to be stuck in a body and lifestyle that hindered her spirit. She was healthy and she was active, and that was something to cheer about a decade past high school, and for decades to come.

Back to School Reading for YOU!

In Flow, by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, the author shares his research about the "flow" state, when you are so absorbed in the task at hand that your negative chatter mind is quieted. You wind up engaged, losing track of time, and calmer. Csikszentmihalyi suggests that this may be what happiness is.

During his research, he found that most people enter a state of flow when they are reading a book they love. I've had times that I've started reading, then looked up at the clock, amazed that more than an hour has gone by.

Since everyone is heading back to school, I wanted to share five books with you that I've read and loved. I've listed three novels, a memoir, and a non-fiction book, so I hope you find something that sweeps you away into a state of flow.

Let's get started.

--One of the most beautiful books I've ever had the pleasure of getting lost in is The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry, by Rachel Joyce. Harold Fry has retired from his job, and can't find much to do with his time, when he receives a letter from an old friend. His friend is dying in hospice and just wanted to say goodbye.

Unsure how to respond, Harold composes a short letter and heads off to the post to mail it. However, when he gets to the first post box, he decides to walk a little further, to the next post, and so begins a journey that is by turns charming, heart-breaking, uplifting, and transformative.

This slim volume will take your breath away.

--If you're looking for something non-fiction, try Lost and Found: Unexpected Revelations About Food and Money by Geneen Roth. I first read Roth's book Women, Food, and God for The Foods We Eat Study Circle, so I was interested in hearing what she had to say about money.

A lot, as it turns out.

Roth and her husband lost more than a million dollars in the Bernie Madoff implosion, and this is her story of trying to understand, trying to cope, and eventually changing her relationship with money.

The book is brutally honest and forthright, and a terrific read, especially if something in your own life has not gone as expected.

--Next up is Anna Quindlen's Every Last One, a terrific novel about family, love, and loss.

The narrator, Mary Beth, is a busy mother of three teenagers, a girl and twin boys. Mary Beth is crazed by her hectic schedule which revolves around her family, but she loves the fullness of her life.

When a shocking act of violence disrupts her world, Mary Beth has to rely on an inner strength she didn't know she possessed.

Quindlen's writing is spot on - real and genuine, without being syrupy or condescending. I found myself thinking about these characters long after I turned the final page.

--I love a good memoir and the ability and willingness an author has to share a part of her life. In Take the Long Way Home, Gail Caldwell begins, "It's an old, old story: I had a friend and we shared everything, and then she died, and we shared that too."

Caldwell's friend is author Caroline Knapp, and the memoir is a beautiful tribute. They meet because of their dogs (I love any story where dogs are central!) and wind up forging a friendship that transcends time and loss.

It's the story of the bond that two women share, and how they navigate that tricky terrain of a best friend relationship.

--Finally, you must read the un-put-downable Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. Apparently, this book was the surprise hit of the summer, but I hadn't heard of it until a friend sent it to me.

Gone Girl tells the story of the relationship between Amy and Nick, husband and wife. Only this isn't your average run-of-the-mill marriage.

The novel is a psychological thriller, complete with intriguing characters, plot twists, and a mystery that must be solved. I usually have a hard time with mysteries because they are often so predictable to me, but this one had me on the edge of my seat until the final page.

Put the phone on voicemail, order dinner in, and pick up Gone Girl for a marvelous ride.

Check out any of these five recommendations for an experience of flow and letting go. And when you finish, drop me a line to let me know what you thought.

Happy Reading and Happy Flow!

Past Trends That Refuse to Fizzle

Summer has come and gone but the best fashions of this season and seasons before are still lingering around. I am a huge fan of these trends because, for me, most of them feel timeless. I love items that are able to express playfulness and creativity in a casual look while also being able to appear chic and polished. I'm hoping these styles will last long into the next year or two.

Color-Block
This combination of bold colors is so cheerful and chic. It makes such an incredibly stylish statement with bright and vivid hues without being the least bit tacky (unless of course, that's what you're going for.) Designer's use of this trend has shown us just what it can do to liven up a piece of clothing, but you can also custom color block your outfits on your own. Match a bright top with a neutral bottom, adding a jacket or accessories of complimentary colors.

Ombre
This trend is named after a French word of the same spelling that means, "shaded." The shading can be identified by one color that gracefully transitions into another. You've seen this style in clothes patterns and nail decorations, but I think it is best known for its representation in hair. I first noticed the ombre on Khloe Kardashian and I instantly fell in love. It looked so free and natural on her long, pretty hair and I immediately wanted to copy her.

Sheer Tops
When I see woman in a sheer, button-down top I think "classy," "professional," and "elegant." When it's paired with shorts or skinny jeans in a more casual look, I think "ingenious." These tops are so versatile, adding a bit of class to even the most avant-garde outfits.

Maxi Skirts
There is so much movement in this style of skirt; it makes even the clumsiest walker look like they have more grace in their step. The style is something reminiscent of early seventies hippie fashion. Paired with a loose tank and the right sandals, you will feel as free and laidback as you look.

Peek-a-Boo Leopard Print
I can't really justify my love for leopard print. I think it has always just been a curious attraction that I, as well as most girls, have but can't explain. I mean, I don't really have the personality that goes with animal prints in general, but if I see a pop of leopard print in an outfit, I go crazy for it. This pattern has always spoken to me as being a little "bad ass." Revealing subtle hints of it, in just the right amounts can make an outfit stand out.

Peter Pan Collar
You've seen this trend in the kind of clothes your mom dressed you in as a child. Consider yourself an innovator. Today, this trend is being recreated by the biggest names in fashion. The Peter Pan collar you know has now been revived in the most spectacular ways. My favorite collars are the ones that are blinged out beyond belief.

Famous Female Blackjack Players

The First Qualified Blackjack Performer - Eleanore Dumont

The first famous female Blackjack performer was none other than Eleanore Dumont. Born in France, she brought to the rugged gold mines of America her refined, European manners. An expert dealer, she opened gambling facilities during the hey day of the Gold Rush in mining towns across the West. She allowed no cursing or unkept men in her establishment and, oddly enough, banned women from playing at her tables. Ever refined, keeping men at arms length, once she amassed her fortune she fell head over heels in love with a con artist who would take every dime and sell her ranch.

She rebuilt her establishment, but as she aged she lost much of the mystery and allure that had once enticed so many gamblers who contributed to her wealth. As she passed her child bearing years she grew heavy facial hair and was called, behind her back of course, Madame Mustache. The Madame, however, stemmed more from her decision to branch out into the prostitution business, running both a gambling house and brothel in her late years.

Card Counter Blackjack - Cathy Hulbert

The only woman to hold the honor of being called one of the world's best Seven Card Stud poker players by Card Player magazine, Cathy Hulbert is a popular female player revered by Blackjack players across the globe.

It was during her college days that Hulbert honed her skills at the card table. After graduating college she left her gambling activities behind and worked for the Senate in New York. It wasn't long before she realized gambling was her passion. Packing her suit case, she moved to Las Vegas, landing a job as a blackjack dealer. An encounter with Ken Uston altered the course of her life. Part of the Czechs team of card counters, she became his eager student and eventually joined his group. She toured with The Czechs during the 60s and 70s, accumulating a small fortune in winnings.

Expelled from several casinos and even arrested, Cathy quietly changed her MO. She would often pose as a man, donning a wig and fake beard. She eventually switched to slots and, while not a game that is known for substantial payout, managed to do quite well. Today she still plays professionally.

Current Female Players

Today, there are a number of well known female blackjack players touring the circuit. Jennifer Tilly, a brash, Oscar nominated actress can often be seen playing televised tournaments. Annie Duke is another famous player better known as The Duchess of poker. These and other female players credit their success to skill and plain old women's intuition - and it seems to be working.

Clothing Tips for Women

Who says it is easy to be a woman? There are so many things that a woman has to worry about - the kids, the household chores, husband/boyfriend, career and most importantly her wardrobe!

But fear not! Nowadays, you can find so many tips on the Internet. In fact, you are going to learn some useful clothing tips in this article.

Tip 1: Always Have a Maxi Dress In Your Wardrobe

Every woman should own a maxi dress. If you are a woman and you do not have a maxi dress in your wardrobe you should consider buying one immediately.

Why maxi dress? Well, there is a very simple reason. Anyone can wear a maxi dress. (Obviously, I am referring to women only.) It does not matter whether you are 50 or 30. It does not matter whether you are fat or thin. As long as you are a woman, you can wear a maxi dress.

In fact, I like to call a maxi dress a wonder dress.

Tip 2: Confidence Is Key

I know this is suppose to be an article about clothing tips. This is not suppose to be a self improvement article. However, I believe that it is still important to talk about confidence.

Ultimately, if you do not have confidence in yourself, you will not be able to portray the beauty even if you are wearing the best dress in the world.

On the other hand, if you radiate confidence, you will look beautiful even if you just wear a simple t-shirt.

Tip 3: Black Is The Ultimate Color

Sometimes, it can be difficult to choose a dress when there are so many colors to choose from.

Well, here is an advice for you. When in doubt, just choose black. Of course, I am not saying that a black color dress is suitable for every single occasion. However, black is probably one of the most versatile color when it comes to clothing.

Black can be easily paired with other colors. Another advantage of a black color dress is that it doesn't get 'dirty' too easily. At least, people won't notice the dirtiness).

Tip 4: Go For Discount and Sales

Most women probably spend a significant amount of their income on clothes. Therefore, I decided to share this tip with you.

Many shops offer great discount from time to time. Sometimes, you will know when a sales will be coming. Why not wait for the sales period. You can get a lot of great bargain by waiting for the sales.

When you can save money, you will have more money to buy other clothes or women accessories, if that is what you chose to do with the extra money. Isn't that a great idea?

Maintaining A Timeless Look For All Seasons With Women's Clothing

Keeping up with fashionable women's clothing today doesn't have to break the bank. A great closet is filled with basic items of women's clothing that one can wear today or ten years from now. Take for example the classic 'A' lined skirt. This kind of skirt can be great for a formal occasion or work attire. Another basic item would be the classic black dress as this can work with any occasion. A simple white blouse can go with just about any outfit one selects and is a necessity for most work attires. Scarf's and fashionable women's clothing can be a really great way to dress up any outfit and adds such a sophisticated and feminine touch. It can be a solid or mixed color variation depending on one's likes and preferences as well as what is already in one's closet.

Basic Accessories To Purchase

A great pair of boots can bring out the dressy look or with a pair of jeans can have a very casual look. Many women have several different kinds of boots that vary in heel heights which is very practical. Most will purchase boots in colors like black, brown, navy while others prefer tan or even white. There is nothing like the look or feel of a brand new pair of shoes. Getting a color that matches a majority of your outfits would be a smart move. Having an alternate pair compliments the changes of outfits and gives off a sense of fashionable flair. One of these pairs of shoes could be flats while the other can be a higher heel. The color one selects should be one that is very versatile with all the outfits so no matter which pair one decides on wearing each day the shoes will always match the women's clothing. Most will get black and possibly a light color alternative like tan which are great choices.

More Necessities And Must Haves

A beautiful handbag is something every woman looks at and notices no matter where they are. Selecting the perfect purse to hold all one's precious possessions is very important as this is one of the very first things everyone notices. The question that comes to mind is always what color is the best and what kind of handbag should one purchase. This is simple as this is an everyday item and as long as the handbag is a quality item, it will last for a very long time and should fit the individual's lifestyle.

Keep In Mind

Everyone has their own different style when it comes to putting together an outfit. What is attractive to one may not get the same reaction from another. However if one feels good about what they are wearing that is really what is important. Putting together various pieces like a skirt from a suit matched up with a blouse from another suit can be very appealing and makes it look like an entirely different outfit all together. Collecting great designer pieces slowly will make sure that article of Women's Clothing will last for a good period of time. The thing to keep in mind as well would be different styles always come back time after time so never throw away these precious pieces as they will be of use in the very near future.

Assessing the Superiority of a Diamond

Diamond
Diamond is a naturally occurring material, a transparent crystal which is an allotrope of carbon. It stands for its hardness and thermal conductivity apart from any other material. In point of fact, it is the hardest natural material. The typical luster characteristic is owing to its high optical dispersion, which means that it has the ability to scatter light of different colors. That's why the diamonds sparkle brilliantly. Due to its extreme hardness, it can be scratched only by another diamond, thus the shine and polish remain intact forever. Thus excels as a popular gemstone.

The quality characteristics of a diamond converge to a single term denoted as 4c. The 4c determine the significance and beauty. The 4c refer to the tetra characteristics namely, Cut, Color, Clarity and Carat. Thus to rate diamonds, experts rely on the 4c. Let's have a glance at the description of the tetra characteristics here:

Cut
The cut characteristic refers to the depth and width proportion, and the uniformity of the facets. This proportion and uniformity attributes plays a significant role in the sparkle and brilliant glitter of a diamond. If the cut is low, then it allows most of the incident light to pass down through it, leaving a little light to reflect. The result is that the gemstone appears dull, lacking brilliance. When the cut is too deep, the diamond will allow the light to pass through the sides and in this case too, it will appear unexciting, lacking sparkle. Hence, an ideal cut will reflect and scatter the light in symphony, creating optimum luster and radiance.

The uniformity of the facets too, plays a vital role in its twinkling outcome. The scintillation effect means the flash that can be visualized when the diamond is moved in the light. This upshot is resultant of a symmetrical arrangement of the facets. This proportioned alignment is crucial to a diamond's beauty.

Color
The white or colorless diamonds are most valued, noted for transparency and lack of color. Compared to white diamonds, the colored ones are discounted in price. The impurities or structural defects renders to the coloration, reducing its grade. Based on the Gemological Institute of America [GIA] color scale, they are graded from D to Z, where D-graded diamonds are pure white diamonds and the z-ranked stones are tainted with yellow or brown shade. For a non-expert, there is little or no color variation in the D-H range. Whereas, the S-Z range are slightly colored and the tint is often visible for a naked eye.

Clarity
Out of the 4c, clarity is regarded as the easiest to estimate, in the sense that an average consumer can understand it due to its straightforwardness. The inclusions and blemishes are the two defects that spoil the clarity of a perfect diamond.

Inclusions are the interior irregularities of a diamond that may be a crack or a crystal of foreign material within it, affecting the clarity. Blemishes are the exterior defects or marks, affecting the surface. The inclusions and blemishes are visible only under a powerful microscope. The GIA uses 10x power magnification to grade the clarity of a diamond. The location, color and visibility of the defects are considered, when ranking the clarity.

Carat
The carat characteristic determines the weight of diamond and is different from the term 'karat' used to measure the purity of gold. Carat is the unit of weight that is used to weigh diamonds and other gemstones. It is not necessary that gemstones of same weight are to the same size, for the reason that some crystals are closely packed and are denser than others.

Usually one carat is split into 100 points, and stones weighing less than a carat are measured in terms of points. As the carat weight of a diamond is more, so is the price. A group of smaller diamonds usually cost low than a solitary larger diamond of equivalent weight. Larger diamonds are rare and most sought for, so they are more expensive. This is so because, to produce a single well-polished and fine-cut one carat diamond, it is required to mine approximately one million diamonds.

Buying diamonds?!
I suppose that this article would have thrown some light upon the attributes of diamonds. If you sought after gemstone jewelry, don't forget to probe the jeweler about the 4c of diamond! Good luck for a perfect gemstone jewelry!
