In the majority of offices today, the proper dress code is "business casual". But often, this statute is a tad bit fuzzy. Exactly what is business casual, what is acceptable and what is not? For all of those that have yet to figure out what this means, below will be some tips and information concerning women's clothing and what a business casual closet really means.
Ideal Wardrobe
If you work in an office that is business casual, the ideal wardrobe needs to consist of 2 jackets, 3 skirts, 3 pairs of slacks and 6 shirts or blouses.
With that said, many argue that the term of "business casual" is open widely for interpretation. What is considered appropriate and casual by today's standards has significantly evolved from just 10 to 20 years ago. But, many believe that a few fashion tips go across all age groups when it comes to work and maintaining a cool, composed and casual look.
How Not To Look
When going through your present wardrobe or trying on assorted outfits, throw away anything that is too long, too short, too baggy or too snug. A t-shirt that is tight with a mini skirt looks fine for a night of drinking and dancing at a club, but is improper around the office.
And just as similarly out-of-place at work are any outfits that show too much midsection or too much cleavage. This doesn't mean button your shirt or blouse all the way up to the neck but there is a neutral look that is between a glimpse of the cleavage and looking like a sexy bombshell. A true business professional needs to have some class, especially if you want to get ahead in your career.
Jeans Are Beautiful
One of the greatest casual-wear innovations of all time is denim jeans. They are not just sturdy and comfortable but with the right choices, are so stylish that they can be used for business casual. There are many women who virtually live in jeans, but for business casual these jeans need to fit perfectly and worn with a very dressy blouse and then a jacket finished off with low-heel pumps.
Jeans now come in cuts in order to flatter any body shape. Straight leg, boot-cut, flared, skinny and wide legs are all just as suitable. But avoid jeans that are faded, patched or ripped when wearing them for business casual. If the pants have torn pockets, ragged cuffs or tattered seams, they should best be left for wearing when cleaning house - not at the office.
Every woman should have at least 2 pairs of impeccable looking jeans in the business casual closet.
Mature Professional
A professional woman who is more mature and possibly further up on the career ladder can of course be young at heart, but her closet needs to accept that her form has developed and changed over the course of her lifetime. And this means that there are items of clothing you might as well pull out of your closet today because business professional they are not. While growing older, the wardrobe may still maintain that sense of trendiness but to look classy it needs to be kept up with in a much wiser way.
These are just a few tips on the current trends of women's clothing in the business world of today.
