When to Use Peacock Feathers and Grosgrain

It is astonishing how we continue to change trends, influence taste and choices, and add preferences in terms of style and fashion. Especially to those who were enthralled and are currently caught in the midst of fashion, you cannot simply make do with what is offered on the table. To be able to make a mark in the fashion industry, you should never be bounded by the rules of the norm (if there actually is one to begin with) and you should start working around your own parameters. Like any form of visual art, fashion is fluid and takes no definite shape unless you of course if you confine yourself to a specific genre or to a specific era of taste and trends.

Fashion designers and dressmakers have made it a conscious effort to make use of clothing and garment accessories in order to achieve levels of aesthetics and functionality. Clothing and garment accessories such as peacock feather and grosgrain are just 2 of the many kinds of accessories that individuals in the industry of fashion are fully accustomed to.

Peacock feathers are beautiful. No one can escape the captivating magic and the colorful exchange of hues in a single piece of a peacock feather. Even as you see a real live peacock in the zoo or in the park, its easily be engaged by its beauty and flounce. Even in the name of fashion, fashion designers and dressmakers make use of a peacock feather's vibrancy and astounding color play by placing it as accents for dresses, evening gown ensembles, wide brim hats, bracelets and belts. The spiral and circular part of a peacock feather where all the colors of purple, green and blue combine are also used as earrings. A hook is simply attached on that part of the peacock feather to make anyone who wears it undeniably beautiful. Of course, peacock feathers used in this kind of activity are synthetic versions of the natural ones. Commendation must given to designers and manufacturers of these synthetic peacock feathers for copying a natural feather down to its fine and intricate elements.

Aside from peacock feathers, grosgrain are also widely used as an aesthetic and functional component of clothing items. Grosgrain primarily looks similar to ribbons and laces. The only difference is that grosgrain is more durable and stronger than a meter of ribbon or lace. Grosgrain is composed of woven silk or wool or a combination of both. The ribbed and woven characteristic of grosgrain makes it a perfect functional element to use in evening dresses for girls and evening coats for guys. With its thick and sturdy composition, grosgrain is used to form part of a button-up polo such as the collar and the arm cuffs. Grosgrain is also used as part of the waistband of jeans or formal pants. Aside from a wide functional use for grosgrain for clothes, grosgrain is also used in other practical applications such as in book binding, cargo handling and gift wrapping.

Who Dictates Your Fashion Sense?

It's no secret that for the most part our fashion sense comes from outside sources. The fashion industry itself, television, movie stars, singers, sports figures, even family; the list is endless. Yet what is fashion? I like to think of it as comfort wear but sadly that's not always the case. If you've ever worn 5" stilettos you know what I'm talking about. In a perfect world there is nothing more comfortable than an old pair of sneakers and sweats, mine at this time have no fewer than 12 holes (I can't bring myself to throw them away). Unfortunately walking into a bank dressed this way puts everyone on guard, I think I even saw one of the tellers push the button! So instead of being comfortable we opt for clothes that are too tight, too short, too long, just wrong!

As a society we are programmed as to what we consider is beautiful, this goes for clothes as well as the individual (that's a whole different topic). With this thought in mind, is the average woman set up to fail? Let's look at it this way; as far as I can see there is nothing more beautiful than a 6"2 rail thin model walking down a stretch of carpet in clothes that you or I would never be caught dead in. OK, strike one; I just failed. While the woman are beautiful, the designs extraordinary, these are not your average woman. I've yet to see a woman in aisle six of my grocery store wearing a glittering gold gown with wings. If I had I would immediately call my neurologist to schedule an MRI!

Women's fashions consist of colors, fabrics, attitude, and swag. Yes, I said it! Fabulous designers around the world tantalize our senses every season with vibrant and inspiring designs, it is through these creations that our imagination is set free to be whomever we wish to be. Free to explore our own inner self and allow that inner self to shine through. So, although we are influenced by the world around us fashion comes from within. Only you can say what fits you best, in your fashion and in your life. Marvel in what the world has to offer in the form of style but choose for yourself and not what society dictates. As an individual fashion is the real you, how you feel, what is right for you. I guess you could call it "YOU FASHION".

Cheap and Unique Wedding Favors for the Guests

With the cost of food and oil going up, brides and grooms are starting to cut down on costs; many are considering cheap wedding favors. Trimming the wedding budget does not however mean cutting corners. Many wedding favors are cheap and can leave the guests impressed. These wedding favors are given to guests as a reminder of the wedding. They also serve as a wonderful means of thanking the guests for participating in this special day.

The tradition of wedding favors has been in existence for a long time now. The tradition became a common practice towards the end of the 18th century. Originally, small boxes referred to as bonbonnieres made of porcelain or crystal were used. Some of the boxes contained precious stones. When sugar was expensive, sugar cubes were given.

However, when sugar became common and inexpensive, people turned to other items such as almonds. The bonbonnieres consisted of 5 almonds covered with sugar to symbolize happiness, fertility, wealth, health and longevity.

Today, different gift items are used. Unique wedding favors are given to children, women and men. The choices include sweets and other things such as miniatures, glass, and crystals, silver made items, photo albums and much more. You are at liberty to give ready-made gifts or customized gifts. The gift can be personalized by including the date of the marriage, the initials or names of bride and groom. The gifts can be placed on the guest seats or distributed.

One of the cheap favors that can be given is soap favors. Soaps are increasingly becoming famous as a practical wedding souvenir. They are beautiful and often smell good.

Therefore, no one attending the wedding can resist the beautifully packaged soap favors. You can buy small scented soaps from wholesale stores and once they are delivered you can package them creatively. You can consider using elaborate soap boxes or small bags to package the soaps. You can then use a ribbon and tag to generate the final touch.

Candles are also a popular favor. The candles feature different shapes, colors, size and scents. Therefore, you can find candles that complement the motif of the wedding and personal style. Candles are available at different prices therefore you are in a position of getting cheap candles. The candles can be tied around using a ribbon. In addition, you can hang a tag where the names and date of the wedding are printed.

Work backward on the chosen dates to determine a timetable of what needs completion. Tasks such as making invitations or picking up your wedding ring cannot be checked off until two months before your wedding day. On the other hand, you both want to take care of other planning such as booking a florist and finding a wedding photographer..

Choose Your Wedding Ring

Ask your friends and relatives to look for a reliable jeweler you can trust. As soon as you find the suitable jeweler for your wedding, you can choose a style you want for your big day. Coordinate with your partner and choose a style that meets your personal preference.

The processional usually begins with an instrumental, or sometimes a soloist performs a slow and even beat you can walk to.

Consider the Weather

Check the weather condition and other potential annoyances. Guests tend to skip out early when they experience a disturbing weather. Consider hiring pest control tanks as bugs also flock in certain areas during certain seasons.

For your reception music, choose lively music as this portion is all about entertainment. It should motivate joyful singing, dancing, and total entertainment.

Choose a Good Photographer

The wedding photographs preserve the brilliance of your wedding day for eternity. Take your time to sort out who is the ideal wedding photographer for your ceremony. Research and ask recently married friends for recommendations. Look for technical skills and look at their portfolio to come up with a good selection.

What Has "Trompe L'oeil" Got to Do With Swimwear?

"Trompe L'oeil" is French for "deceive or trick the eye" It is used in decorating houses and gardens. I am sure you have all seen photos of beautiful scenes painted on house walls by early French decorators.

This is "Trompe L'oeil". Different scenes are painted on the wall to give the impression of a shady walk out into a garden or through palisades to a pond. Lots of different scenes and styles, it is very effective and lovely to look at. It really does "trick the eye" into believing the scene is there.

What does the French "Trompe L'oeil" have to do with swimwear?

Everything.

Tricking the eye is what successful swimwear buying is all about.

So the French "Tromp L'oeil" is the same principal as we use when trying on swimwear to get all sorts of body shapes looking balanced.

Girls who have a large bottom and small bust can create the impression of balance using "Tromp L'oeil" trick the eye.

Start with a top that has frills, ruffles, a pattern or rouching. These extras will give the impression of a larger bust than actually exists. "Trompe L'oeil".

Keeping the bottom plain minimizes this area, thus giving the impression that the top and bottom are in balance. A bit of trial and error will show the right height bottom for you. It's not something that can be decided without trying on. You will quickly see which bottom looks right and balances the body.

"Trompe L'oeil" trick the eye.

Conversely if you have a large bust and a small bottom the opposite comes into play. Keep the top plain with maybe a pattern, but no large frills or draping of the fabric.

Most ladies with large busts don't have to worry about their bottom. So look for a pant that suits your body shape.

Stand back and look at yourself objectively, try not to let your eyes go to that bit of your body that worries you.

Everyone else sees the whole picture, not the bit you focus on. Try to let yourself see the whole picture to.

"Trompe L'Oeil" is a very old art technique that we can use very successfully in our every day life. It applies so beautifully to choosing the right swimsuit for your body shape.

We are endeavoring to make the big bits look smaller and the small bits look bigger.

Using the principle of "Trompe L'Oeil" we are creating the illusion of small looking bigger and bigger looking smaller.

We are not all beautiful oil paintings, but we can use this very old technique to look great in our swimwear.

Why Tubal Reversal Is Used To Restore Fertility

Tubal reversal surgery is a surgical technique used to repair damaged fallopian tubes in a woman. This surgery is usually sought out after a woman has had a tubal ligation (tubes tied) or has fallopian tubes that have become blocked due to scar tissue. This surgery can be performed as a low cost outpatient surgery in the leading tubal reversal surgery center located in the United States.

There are reasons why women choose to have tubal reversal surgery and not IVF (in vitro fertilization). The first is because of cost. Outpatient reversal surgery costs about $8,000 where one treatment of IVF can be $10,000- $15,000. For many, the first treatment of IVF does not work and many have to endure high prices and the treatment again. With reversal ligation the couple has a chance to conceive each cycle after the surgery. Eighty percent of tubal ligation reversal patients will become pregnant in the first year.

Many couples do not want to have the IVF fertility treatments due to religion. Others do not want to chance the multiple births associated with IVF. Still others just do not want to have a fertility treatment that is unnatural. Conceiving following ligation reversal is considered the most natural way to conceive following a tubal ligation. This is more comfortable for the patients and they know that they can just let nature take its course.

The pregnancy success rate following reversal surgery is remarkably great. The most recent study, Tubal Reversal Pregnancy Report 2011 is the latest and most conclusive study performed and recorded to date. The odds of becoming pregnant following the removal of tubes and rings has the highest success rate.

There are a few factors to consider when researching reversal surgery. The first is your age at the time of reversal surgery. As we know, it is harder to achieve pregnancy as we get older. This does not mean that pregnancy isn't possible, what it means is that it may take longer.

The experience of the surgeon performing the tubal ligation reversal. The fallopian tubes are extremely delicate and it takes the best of surgeons to do the repair the right way. When researching the surgeon to perform the surgery make sure you check the surgeons background, how long they have been performing the surgery and the team that they work with. If you have questions regarding the surgery be sure they are answered to your expectations. If not, keep asking until you have the questions answered and you are at peace with the answers.

Find a message board with other tubal reversal patients. This is where you can have questions answered and become friends with others that are on the same journey as you and your spouse. Although tubal reversal can be confusing at times it is a journey that changes your life for the better.

Hormone Treatments: The Dangers You Need to Know!

As a women, it seems we are always presented with hormone treatments as a solution for all sorts of things. If you suffer from Endometriosis, Fibroids, Menstrual Pain, PMS or Menopause, the solution seems to come in the form of a pill you take on a daily basis. They are an array of hormone treatments, presented as the ultimate solution for every ailment a women has.

These tablets are not designed for our bodies and there is a reason why we develop symptoms in the first place. Though the processes of periods, child birth and menopause are the beauties of being a women, the associated symptoms most of us experience are far from it. They are not normal and we should really exam the results of using Hormone Treatments to solve these symptoms.

1. Hormone Treatments and Fungal Overgrowth.

More than 80% of conditions experienced within society are caused by fungal overgrowths found in our gut. These overgrowths add to the toxic load in our bodies and create imbalances, inflammation and disease. Hormone Treatments directly contribute to this overgrowth and depending on the length of time they are taken can cause incredible damage.

2. The impact on the liver.

The liver is responsible for regulating and releasing excess hormones in our bodies. The likelihood is that our imbalances and problems we are experiencing with our hormones all began with the liver. It is imperative to heal the liver and get it working again. These synthetic hormones only add to an already burdened liver, by adding unrecognisable elements into our bodies. The liver simply has to clean up more mess! Hormone Treatments are not aiding our liver but are taking away from it's healing.

3. This stuff is not natural and alters hormones in ways we may not realise.

There have been cases of women who have become completely debilitated by taking synthetic hormones. They cannot move anymore because of the reaction these things had on their bodies. This stuff is synthetic and it is not natural. We have no idea how they will ultimately affect us in years to come.

We can find natural alternatives to regulate our hormones and feel better. Diet and lifestyle changes can contribute tremendously and aid in our healing and balance.

Is Comfort a Big Factor When Choosing a Fashion Shoe?

This is a question that so many ladies have different responses to. Some ladies will tell you that it's worth suffering for beauty whereas others say that it's not worth it. Well this is what I think...

I think that comfort is a big factor when choosing the right ladies shoes. If I'm going to be walking around in the mall all day long, I want to comfortable. However, if I'm out on the town then I want to look stylish and be comfortable. Is that too much to ask for? I don't think so. I think that I can get the best of both worlds without having to sacrifice the comfort of my feet. Even though I think of comfort when choosing my ladies shoes this does not affect my sense of style. I've come to the realisation that we are very fortunate women. We have the best designers that compete with each other to give us the most fabulous styles in both clothing and fashion shoes.

Furthermore, these designers also identify that the lady who exudes the most sex appeal is one who is comfortable. A lady that is comfortable will then go back to that designer and buy another pair of their fashion shoes. So they design shoes that are made for our comfort. That is why there are so many different styles of fashion shoe such as wedges shoes, ladies sandals, winter boots, platform shoes and most of all pumps shoes. Pumps shoes are both flat shoes and beautiful shoes. What a delightful fashion shoe enigma it is. You can dress up or dress down with pump shoes. That means that comfort and beauty agree. Alternatively you could choose fashion shoes with a mid-heel. It's not a six inch heel so you don't have to worry if you are walking or standing all day. Fashion shoe designers spend a lot of time and research on getting the styling and comfort right so that we as women can enjoy our shoes and look fabulous at the same time. It's hard to imagine but ergonomics plays a big role in the design and manufacturing of a shoe.

In summary, I believe in comfort and in fashion shoes that are designed well. My shoes shouldn't hurt my feet nor should they make me look shabby. They should be comfortable and stylish. People should turn their heads for the right reasons. Fashion shoes should be designed with me and you in mind and guess what, they are.

Women's Shoe Designer - Giuseppe Zanotti

What does a middle-aged high-end shoe designer, born in the village of Rimini, Italy, have in common with a rapper born in Georgia and reared in Chicago? My guess would be music! Before Giuseppe Zanotti introduced the world to his magnificent designs and his critically acclaimed footwear, he was spinning records as a popular and passionate DJ. Zanotti's friendship with the often outspoken and always flamboyant Kanye West, makes perfect sense. They both have an appreciation for music, and both produce the highest quality products within their respective genre. Recently, the two have collaborated on their second exquisite woman's shoe design called "Cruel Summer". The creation is an all white stiletto, and has a "greek leaf" treatment, consistent with the rapper's new album cover. I wonder who we'll see donning those puppies?

Ever since his purchase of the Vicini shoe factory nearly 20 years ago, Giuseppe Zanotti, continues his devotion to women's shoe designs and construction, at the highest level of quality. His philosophy concerning the manufacturing of women's shoes, is cater to the demands of women's feet. To that end, using the term, "jewelry for the feet", would not be an over-statement! His first collection hit the ground running, after being showcased in New York. The jewelled adorned high-heeled sandals are simply artistic. With swan-like feminine lines, and sheer beauty, they are perfect examples of true high-fashion, elegant footwear. Always ready to create styles from outside the box, the brilliance of his designs appears unending.

Although the popularity of both high-heeled and flat jewelled sandals, seem to garner significant attention, the entire line of pumps are also extraordinary. The sizing and comfort concerns, are addressed in all of his designs.

Currently, Zanotti's collections are creating the type of buzz, all designers would hope to enjoy. This is a familiar place for this master designer. Zanotti has been nominated for the prestigious "Designer of the Year", award four times throughout the years, and I'm sure this pattern will continue.

Occasionally, Giuseppe Zanotti's shoe sales, will still deliver excellent opportunities, for all those budget-minded consumers. Manufacturing about a half-million extravagant women's shoes each year, has yet to slow him down. In fact by contrast, Zanotti has pushed forward and began engaging men's shoes into his formidable stable of footwear. Easy to understand why Zanotti is "hot on the heels" of all noteworthy competitors.

Avant-garde sneaker designs have been a part of Zanotti's collections for years. However, this season they are trending incredibly well. These high-end, wonderfully designed, pricey comfort shoes, have captured the attention of both women and men alike. With a vast array of styles, colors, and patterns they are flying out of inventories across the country. For the most part they are androgynous, allowing both men and women to cross shop for these amazing products.

Giuseppe Zanotti's client base is strong and loyal. For those not very familiar with this shoe design artisan, perhaps now is the time to become better acquainted. The ability to become more creative with the passing of time, leaves us guessing what will he do to up the ante yet again.

Find, Acknowledge and Celebrate Your Best Body Feature

There is an old song that goes accentuate the positive; eliminate the negative; do not mess with Mr In-between. Great words!

Too often I hear women over 40 worrying constantly about their negative body bits. The media is full of articles telling us women how to disguise our faults. When that all seems too hard, we fall into the in-between. These are the so-so clothes that are neither flattering nor disguising but just plain boring.

When you dress to accentuate your best body feature all or most of the time, you show your self-confidence. You also stand out as a leader who is making the most of her strengths. In the different ways you draw attention to your best body feature, you learn creativity and give the visual impression of being a modern, forward-thinking woman. Wow!

Here is some inspiration for business and professional women over 40 to help you find, acknowledge and creatively accentuate your best body feature.

Step 1 - Find It

This is not always as simple as it sounds. I can hear you silently moaning that you have no best feature. Here is a starting list - your height, eyes, eyelashes, hair, face shape, long neck, figure, arms, hands, legs or feet. Something about one of these features causes others to notice you and comment positively on it. You may have dismissed the compliment. Now is the time to remember those words or ask your partner or friends what they think is your best physical feature and why. The why will be essential later. Another alternative is to go to an Image Consultant for an unbiased, positive assessment of your best body feature.

On the other side are those of you who know your best feature. You may have been complimented on it all your life and wish it would go away because you feel you are more than your striking feature. Some of you know what it is but you do not know how to accentuate it.

Step 2 - Acknowledge It

The most important part of acknowledgment is that it is for you first. You have been given your best feature to be uniquely you. It is part of you and something that will help you on your life's journey like Paul Newman's blue eyes. Be grateful for it. You have been given soft eyes to develop your gentleness; a strong face shape to develop your focused determination or your long fingers to be playful or elegant.

Secondly, it is there to attract others to you. They need it as a beacon to find you. Maybe they need to give you a life message or lesson; or come to you to learn something from you or to join you as part of your business or personal tribe.

Step 3 - Celebrate It

Short-term happiness is finding one item that accentuates and enhances your best body feature. You may discover that a princess line from the bust enhances your figure and you look for and wear that style all the time. You end up with a full wardrobe but feel stuck in a rut. Eventually you may get discouraged and you try to hide your best feature.

Long-term happiness is discovering and experimenting with different ways to develop and celebrate your best feature throughout the rest of your life. It is acknowledging your long fingers and celebrating them by learning all the different ways you can accentuate them. That may be experimenting with different nail shapes and colours; finding elegant, dramatic or fun rings, watches or bracelets; and looking for interesting sleeve styles and accents that draw attention down to your hands. Your long fingers become a source of physical and visual enjoyment for you because there is always the excitement of learning something new.

Repeating the same patterns of dressing over and over leads to women being judged as safe, boring and dowdy. Re-inventing yourself with minor or major changes to your clothes, colour and accessories is the mark of a modern, stylish woman.

Last Words

Making the most of yourself is about appreciating who you are physically as well as mentally and emotionally. Women who find, acknowledge and celebrate their best feature become a woman of influence who inspires other women to also make the most of themselves.

Some Great Tips On How You Can Enjoy A Blind Date

Going on dates can be both fun and stressful. It's fun if you truly like the person you're with and you do things both of you enjoy. It's also enjoyable if it's smooth sailing all the way. But when things are the opposite, it's an entirely different story. This is especially true if you go on blind dates. Blind dates are a lot like first dates. It will be the first time both of you will be seeing each other, unless by some wild coincidence you have met each other before. You also have no idea what to expect since you have little to no information on the other party.

The question now is: would you be able to survive a blind date? Is there a way for you to make it work and turn things around? The answer to that is a big yes! Of course, the ratio of successful blind dates as against unsuccessful ones still pretty much tips towards the latter. However, in these modern times, a lot of things have changed for the better. For one thing, there are lots of things you can do even on a blind date. Also, there so many useful tips on how to make conversations work and all that. Let's go through some of them!

First, try to put yourself in the right mindset for this occasion. Since it's a blind date, it's best to lower your expectations. Do not conjure idealistic images in your mind. You will only be in for a great disappointment if you do. Expect the worst, but don't dwell on it. That way, when your date turns up to be a total hunk with a personality to boot, you'll end up having the time of your life. Second, try at least to find out where you will be going. If not, just ask whomever is setting you guys up how you should dress for the occasion.

If you look good while feeling comfortable in your outfit, this can help put you in the right mood. Plus, you never know whom you might bump into while on your date! Third, don't try too hard to keep the conversation going. If you guys hit it off right from the start, well and good. If not, then take things slowly. Try to find a common interest that you both can talk about. If you take a very measured approach, you'll just end up stressing yourself. Lastly, think of a fun venue and suggest it to your date if things get a bit tense.

Fall Fashion Trends - Women's Clothing

Certain trends in women's clothing such as pantsuits are going to be again popular this fall. But there will be a change this year, the menswear staple is new yet again, but it will not all be mannish. Feminine collar and peplums will be high on the trend list for fall. As well as colors that are rich will also make the news. Textures that are lush as well has a large part in this fall, as well as sweaters that are cozy knit and pieces of velvet are looks that are strong for the season.

Leather

When the leaves on the trees start to change is the time to get out the leather jackets. Leather jackets are one of the most versatile women's clothing pieces that you can own. Whether your choice is a classic motorcycle jacket or the quilted look there are many unique ways to wear leather. Throw on a leather jacket to finish a cocktail dress making it hipper and younger or simply pair it up with menswear pants and a white shirt for the office.

Leather in women's clothing is going to be seen all over the place, from tops to dresses. Also there will be a conservative and timeless but sexy leather shift sleeveless or women going bold with leather stretchy leggings. Both ways - leather has diverged out from only being for coats and jackets.

Give all that you wear a bit of chic by using your leather jacket in ways that are unexpected. It's an abundant way to expand and wake up your outfits. A leather jacket with a black dress, and pearls for a dressy look can be worn this fall.

Classics to Own

From a fitted blazer to a classic white shirt, these fall basics will be in style every year. These timeless pieces of women's clothing are a major investment, because they are able to be mixed back with trends and are wearable every season and will never go out of style.

A boundless jacket that is tailored and fitted to boaster all the curves, not a masculine baggy style - will go with almost anything jeans to trousers. A jacket always adds organization to the figure and provides curvy girls more lines that are angular, creating waistlines for types of figures that are boyish and smooths the bumps and lumps out for all shapes.

For a fall jacket fabrics choose fabrics such as tweed, corduroy, menswear plaid or denim or you can go elegant with leather, velvet, and brocade.

Building a Wardrobe

How to Choose the Right Color Nail Polish Based on Your Skin Tone

Just like any beauty style, there are a few basic principles that have to be followed. Similarly, when picking out nail polish colors, there are certain things to take into consideration. Nail polish colors are meant to flatter, or at least complement the skin tone of the wearer. Here's a simple guide to help you choose the right color according to your skin tone.

For Fair Skin
• Women who have fair or light skin can use most colors for their nails. However, there are still differences in fair-skinned women in undertone and shade. Women with skin that's too pale might want to avoid extremely dark colors since they will look much too eye-popping.

• Choose shades that flatter your fair skin, such as pink in either soft or bright shade, a light to medium shade of purple, and red.

• If you're going for a healthy, rosy look, use nail polish in shades of pink.

• Blue-based polish is usually recommended.

For Medium Skin Tone
• Being the middle color, medium tones can wear most shades.

• Medium tones will do well with nail arts since the different colors and prints blend well with their skin color making them look stylish. It is recommended to use nail art designs that have metallic shades.

• Using glitter polish will add a tanned look.

• Using vibrant colors like yellow, blue, orange, or pink will look impressive. Bright shades are the perfect color for this skin tone.

• To emphasize the neutral color of medium tones, you may use metallic and silver versions of a light blue color.

• Avoid navy blue, dark purple, and red.

Dark Skin Tone
• To emphasize the beauty of dark skin tones, nail polish with dark colors should be used. Colors like chocolate brown, dark green, red, or a nice burgundy match the rich color of dark-skinned women.

• Gold also looks good on dark skin making it easy for dark-skinned women to pull off a stylish look with gold polish.

• However, if you want to accentuate tanned skin, lighter shades may be used. Other colors that may work for dark skin are light brown and chocolate, pink, light blue, and purple. Since tan is a sun kissed color, gold nail polish should be avoided as it will blend completely with the overall color of the skin making it invisible. For tan complexion, go for colors found on the warm side of the color chart.

• Yellow-based colors come highly recommended for women who have dark skin tone.

The general rule when matching complexion or skin tone to colors for nail polish is quite simple: dark to dark and light to light. Light skin will look best with light to medium colors while dark skin will look better with medium to deep dark colors.

Women and Shopping

'Women' and 'shopping' are inseparable words. Though shopping is not the monopoly of a woman but in this field she is surely in the forefront. Men usually shop to fulfill a need but for a woman shopping is a passion. A woman may take pleasure in shopping by actually visiting a shop, shopping on internet or window shopping even! Of course there is an exception to every rule so a few women may have other tastes.

But in general women may shop - because they have liked something or to be tuned in with the latest consumer products or to fulfill their household requirement like buying various home appliances or for some festive occasion... say gifting chocolates or sweet boxes, whatever the reason be shopping and women can be inseparable as two sides of the same coin!!

These days the markets too are flooded with fresh products and better varieties of items and new ones of various brands are popping up every other day. This too tempts the women to evaluate different products.

Feminine interest in shopping is more intense when it comes to jewellery and clothes. Today a wide range and variety can be found in imitation jewellery and markets are overflowing with clothes. A woman is a lot choosy when it comes to these categories! However there is something available to suit every purse - a fat wallet or a layman's choice. These days with the inflation on the run, where it is sometimes even difficult to make ends meet for some, cheap varieties are replacing the expensive ones. The wise woman may not bank upon buying gold or diamond jewellery that may pinch her daily budget but instead may opt for imitation jewellery that offers gold plated or rhodium plated jewellery which is not only graceful and modern but easily available with varied choices.

Today the percentage of working women is increasing. This makes her busier and leaves little time for shopping. So the smart woman has now started shopping with the online shopping malls that offer her discounts and coupons, facility for comparing various products and their prices and much more.

Of course this kind of shopping may have some limitations like in the shopping of perfumes or carpets - where smelling and texture feeling facilities are not available (some online shopping sites offer some 15 days returning schemes if you are not satisfied with the product).

Thus even with the increasing busy schedule of women they find time for something very dear and close to their heart - Shopping!!

Practicing Self-Care: Women Are We Killing Ourselves in the Name of Love?

Dear Woman,

  • Are you more "burned out" than you realize, running on empty most of the time?
  • Are you too drained to be truly present with the closest people in your life?
  • When people ask you how you're doing, do you say "Great!" even though you're dragging yourself around with your last ounce of energy?
  • Do you feel like your needs don't count?

Despite all the progress we've made over the years, being a woman today is harder than ever before. Many of us are still victims of a deeply rooted, collective belief that it's selfish to put ourselves first. No matter how many opportunities we may have gained, we're often still expected to play the role of major caregiver--not only for our children, but our parents and partners as well.

The whole truth is that today's woman is serving triple-duty: as a result, there's less time than ever to focus on ourselves, both internally and externally.

Ultimately, however, nothing--no matter how important the roles we play might be--should come at the expense of our own well-being.

***

When we care for ourselves first and foremost, we become role models--for our children, our partners, and, most of all, for each other. By bringing our whole selves into the equation--rested, playful, creative, sexy, and smart--we build the foundation to do what we need to do in a balanced and harmonious way. This delivers unexpected results: the true joys of creativity, spontaneity, energy, productivity, and love.

This is not selfishness; it is the essence of Self-Care.

***

The Dalai Lama has said it is the western woman who will lead us to the new world. That's quite a mandate--and a compliment as well! But in order to do that, we must learn to care for ourselves first, or we will miss the mark and not fulfill our potential.

This means:

  • Putting ourselves first and practicing Self-Care every day.
  • Loving ourselves from the inside out.
  • Learning to love our bodies as they are.
  • Discovering the true meaning of "sisterhood," as we support rather than compete with one another.

So many of us mistakenly believe that Self-Care will be just another large drain of our time and energy--one more set of demands to put on the "To Do" list. But true self-care is actually 180-degrees the opposite.

What would it take for you to make self-care a vital part of your everyday life?

***

I invite you--a woman who cares about herself and her world--to practice Self-Care and to "make our lives our own dance." Only then will we have the chance of fulfilling our potential as women, walking into the new world, one step at a time.

Here are four exercises to strengthen your Self-Care, from wherever you are:

1) Shut off all technological devices and sit quietly for five minutes every day.

2) Do something you consider play "just for you" for at least fifteen minutes per day. This could mean anything: dancing in your living room, reading a book, taking a bath, singing or listening to music.

3) Ask yourself: what do I really need and want? What really matters to me? Start to make a list of the things you love to do.

4) Make the following quote your mantra: "Only go as fast as the slowest part of you can go."

This is the first in a series of articles.

I always want to hear from you,

Lynda

Tips For Perfect Eyebrows

Eyebrows are one of the first things that you'll notice about a person. These seemingly useless patches of hair frame the eyes and at most times provide good non-verbal communication. For example, a raised eyebrow can convey the message of doubt or confusion while eyebrows that curve down in the center can make you look just plain angry. Ever been browless? Yeah, not a good look for anyone.

For eyebrows that have been over-plucked, most partiers that have had their eyebrows shaved off while in a drunken slumber say that their brows grew back in about two to three months. However, there are over-the-counter products as well as tricks to help the hair grow faster. Recommended products include Rogaine, Talika Lipocils, and Enormous Lash. To stimulate hair follicles, some recommend using a soft brush (toothbrush) and castor/olive oil. Let the brow grow "wild" for three months. Cover unwanted stragglers with concealer in the meantime so you don't appear to be unkempt.

Trimming
Many women skip the trim which can actually save you a lot of plucking time. Not trimming can also result in removing too much hair when in actuality you need just remove bulk. Use a brow brush to brush hair up. Trim any rogue hairs that fall outside of your main shape.

A Tip Before You Tweeze
Use concealer while you complete the following steps on shaping. This way you don't have to just imagine what your finished brows will look like, you can actually look yourself in the mirror and decide if you like what you see.

Where to start?
Visualize a straight line from the outer sides of the bulb of your nose up. This is where your brow should start. For eyes that are set a little wider apart, this will help to make them appear to be closer together. Remember, more space between the brows will result in the illusion of a big forehead.

The Arch
Take a ruler or straight object like your eyeliner and line up the tip of your nose with the pupil of your eye. Where the ruler lands on your eyebrow is where the peak of your arch should exist. For a medium arch, line up the nose and the middle of your pupil. For a larger arch, line up the nose and far end of your pupil (closest to ear).

Ending
All good things come to an end. Line up the outer edge of your nostril with the outer corner of your eye. Where the ruler or straight object falls on your eyebrow is where you should end your eyebrow. If your eyebrow falls a little short, don't worry! Use a brow pencil to fill in the empty space until the hair grows in. While darker eyebrows can give the appearance of youth, be weary of over doing the brows and steer clear of the I-drew-my-eyebrows-on-with-a-Sharpie look. Tip: Don't like the shiny look of the brow pencil? Take some black or brown matte eye shadow and use an angled brush to gently blot on the shiniest of areas.

Now that you've shaped and plucked, upkeep of your brow will be easy! Just pluck away the rogue hairs that pop up outside of your main shape!

7 Things Mothers Do When Managing Their Households

Is your home often unorganized, unclean and uncomfortable? Could it be that you are lacking in needed supplies for cleaning and deodorizing? Do you permit too much freedom for visitors, pets and small children to roam? Do you fail to manage your time wisely to tend to household chores? Mothers who have spotless households do the following things.

One. They do laundry more than once a week.

Wise moms know that things can come up any time of the week, so these mothers don't put off what they can do today. The television and gaming is never a priority when a house or apartment needs to be organized and cleaned. So the smell of dirty laundry isn't going to linger in a mom's house who likes to stay caught up on her laundry.

Two. They clean things as soon as they are dirty.

The difference between an unclean person and a clean one is an unclean person won't bother to wash much of anything until it becomes a problem for all. He or she will make a mess, and it might stay awhile. But a clean person is going to get to it right away because he or she doesn't want it to become an issue later. There are those moms that are always on top of spills, stains, crumbs, you name it! Sometimes it can get on visitors nerves, but think of it this way, that's just one less thing you have to deal with, thanks to Mom!

Three. They buy different supplies that are proven to tackle certain tasks i.e.) mold and mildew, stain cleaners, glass cleaners, furniture polish, etc.

Have you ever tried to use dish-washing liquid to clean off a marking on something only to realize it isn't working? Well, cleaning guru moms know what works best on what. She is going to use the oven cleaner for the stove and then glass cleaner for the glass. Mom might even have some things to scrub the mildew in the bathroom along with the foam cleaner. Then she may have another cleaning agent to get rid of the oil stains in the garage. There just isn't one cleaner that does it all in the way that mom likes it. Just like there isn't one cloth, mop, or floor vacuum either for some moms that does it all.

Four. They enlist help within their family when they can't always keep up.

Older children are given chores and partners and relatives are asked to take part in household duties from time-to-time. It isn't always easy to run an efficient household, so sometimes everyone has to assist mom especially when she is ill.

Five. They set aside time (sometimes over a period of days) for bigger tasks.

It takes time to organize an environment that has many items. Smart mothers don't exhaust themselves trying to do things all in one day, she spreads out her activities over the course of days. When she finds that there are some things she no longer wants, but still in reasonable condition, she arranges for an individual or business to come pick up those items or she drops them off.

Six. If it doesn't work, isn't useful, or is a problem, the item doesn't stay for long (this also includes lazy guests).

Why keep things around that aren't useful? Sure, we all would like to tell ourselves, "I'm going to use that one day... " But that one day came once five years ago, now what? Some garages are overfilled with junk, because of false promises we make to ourselves-get rid of that stuff!

Mothers, who know how much they can tolerate, don't keep people around for long either in their homes. There comes a point when a mother grows weary of trying to make things work that don't work i.e.) relationships, additional guests in the home, even elderly parents. What these moms do is find the resources that can get mom the care that she needs, assistance for the children, and if need be, an attorney to rid themselves of a wayward spouse. This is why some women, no matter what they go through in life, manage to keep their heads-they don't permit family, friends, and others to dictate what they can and can't do in their lives.

Seven. They plan in advance family meals, vacations, holidays, and more.

Proper planning is key when attempting to perform any task. So when you see that some moms tend to always have a good time with their families and everyone seems to be getting along, that is because there is a lot of planning and most likely money involved. From a meal menu to a savings account, a mother on a mission to accomplish some sort of family goal will not hesitate to grab a paper, pencil, the phone, computer, and a calculator and get to work! She pens her thoughts, researches via the Internet and phone-book, makes necessary phone calls, and compares prices then checks her account to see if she can afford whatever it is that she wants for her family.

For some of you who have mothers who enjoy a tidy atmosphere, even if at times they are anal about it, consider this, they just want what's best for family and self. Mom maintains the upkeep of the house, and you can find your socks, wear clean underwear and eat on sparkling utensils-what a trade-off! Let mothers everywhere, be free to clean!

What Society Would Look Like If Women and Men Were Equal

In college in the 1980s I remember feminism as a word so confusing and controversial, I dared not speak of it. Over the years, as I lived, worked and travelled, the concept of feminism came into focus.

But how is it defined? I looked it up in Websters the other day and found feminism defined as "the theory of the political, economic and social equality of the sexes." I'm not sure why that is so controversial in hindsight.

That definition got me thinking, what would society look like if the word "theory" was taken out of the definition and women had perfect equality.

I talked to a number of women and all agreed that if women had half the power, things would be quite a bit different.

If half of Congress were women, many agreed that life would be better for women and children. "The school day just might match the work day and health care would cover contraception and Viagra," said Christine Bronstein, founder of the women's social network A Band of Wives and author of the newly released book "Nothing But the Truth So Help Me God"

(The significance of women holding at least half of all seats was detailed in this New York Times op-ed last week. The authors outline recent research they conducted which concluded: "female lawmakers significantly reshape policies only when they have true parity with men." So while the electoral gains by women in the polls last week is a step in the right direction, there is still a long way to go.)

In an equal world, with half of all Fortune 500 CEOs being women, instead of 3 percent today, women would earn the same as their male counterparts. Bronstein told The Story Exchange she believes having more women in charge would lead to higher rates of employee retention and paid family leave at companies.

Ad for Valentino, Courtesy of Business Insider With women earning equal pay, the average incomes would rise and the number of families in poverty would fall. The GDP in the US would grow by an 9%, according to UN estimates, so we would all be enjoying a better economy, and the U.S. would have a lower rate of public assistance.

And with more power, the status of women would be elevated and for one, we wouldn't be exposed to the same number of degrading ads. "You would not open a magazine to the Valentino ad shown here because woman would make up 50 percent of the advertising world's creative directors instead of the current 3 percent," Bronstein said.

And many agree we would have fewer wars. "Women send children into wars with a much greater sense of grief than men do," said Carol Evans, president of Working Mother Media and CEO of the National Association for Female Executives.

At the same time, some things would stay the same. "Women still have to fire people, they have to make hard decisions and they have to pass laws. But women would do these things by working together with a longer term view and an eye to the future." Evans said.

She said part of this is because women focus more on what life will be like for future generations, including their children and grandchildren. That longer-term thinking would mean a focus on preventative measures in healthcare today, she adds.

Nancy Hopkins, a molecular biologist and geneticist at MIT, says she believes that the heavily male dominated field of science would change if the female stereotypic behavior of caring and helping were embraced. For example, this would lead to more focus on preventative healthcare.

Hopkins, who has taught university students for close to 40 years, says she's never seen any differences in how women and men think about science when they are doing science - for example when designing experiments, interpreting data, discussing science, or generating ideas for new experiments.

However, the stereotypes of acceptable and ideal behaviors for men and women are wildly different, she says. "I believe that science - and the world - will look very different when the female stereotypic behavior has equal status and power to that of men."

Hopkins says she realized this recently while studying the causes for the underfunding of cancer prevention research. Over the last 30 years there has been spectacular progress in the development of new drugs that are improving treatment and extending life span for cancer patients. At the same time, Hopkins says, epidemiologists believe that 70 percent of cancer deaths are preventable and at least 50 percent could be prevented by applying knowledge that is entirely available today.

Despite this knowledge, the amount of funding that goes to prevention research is a small fraction of what goes to developing treatments for advanced cancers. Currently Hopkins is on sabbatical trying to find out why. She hasn't found the answer yet, but recounts an emerging theme, illustrated recently by a man - a scientist turned venture capitalist - that she met at a cocktail party.

He asked me what research I was interested in. "Cancer prevention", I replied. Appearing to recoil, he almost shouted, "You can't make any money that way." Try to imagine a woman saying that. The stereotypical female would not really be allowed to say such a thing or ultimately perhaps, even to think such a thing. That stereotype is a person who is obliged to see that prevention is applied to as many people as possible as rapidly as possible to save as many lives as possible while we also continue to push for curing cancer.

For Hopkins, it's when the male and female stereotypes fuse to make a new ideal that we will have a fantastic world. "The ideal will be a combination of the driving, bold, risk-taking world of the "stereotypical male" and the caring, lift-all-boats, kind and generous world of the "stereotypical female."

I personally believe we are on our way, but it's a good thing women are long-term thinkers, because it's going to take a while until feminism is no longer a theory, but a reality for the betterment of all.

The Clothes Women Need to Get From Desk to Dinner: The Art of a 16 Hour Wardrobe

Do you have skeletons in your closet?

You know those kind of drab, dreary, monochromatic, comfortable but not terribly attractive work clothes that you've been wearing for about 7 years. I call this stuff 'dumpy duds'. They cover me, they are serviceable and they fit the mold of what was de rigeur for corporate life years ago!

But they don't flatter me and I definitely don't look powerful or attractive or like I can command a boardroom. So... do YOU still have skeletons in your closet?

WHY?! What gives?

You're a force to be reckoned with-a woman who's smart as a whip, focused and successful; you're used to super-achieving in anything and everything you want to do. You are someone who KNOWS how to make things happen. And you wouldn't be here today if you didn't know how to make it in a man's world.

The thing is - you're not a man and your clothes are one of your most powerful attributes in creating the juice, the power, the sassiness, and yes, the success you desire! Men's fashions are much more constrained than those for us women... our clothes really can help define us. You don't have to wear the "uniform" that society has created.

Be authentic!

Show up!

Be all the woman you are!

There is ALWAYS a way to create a great wardrobe that allows you to shine.

In the '80s, I was in full-time 'corporate mode'. I didn't even consider wearing clothes that would let me transition easily from work to evening. I didn't think once about including more "feminine" pieces in my wardrobe. It was suit, pantyhose, belt, high heels, briefcase. IBM set the dress code: that's what we wore. Period. It took me over 8 years to even try to wear a camisole that might show through my blouse.

I am going to show you how to add some sass and sensuality to your wardrobe and allow you to maximize your advantage of being a woman. And... I am going to help you take your wardrobe from the desk to dinner.

The truth: most of us, in our 40 through 60's, are in pretty much the same shape. Our bodies are not tight and perfect and 25 anymore. There are saggy bits, wrinkly bits, and even sunspots sprouting up. Our kind of bodies won't fit in tight revealing clothes made for a size 0 with less than 15% body fat. But that doesn't mean you have to hide your body in a 'burlap sack' or dumpy duds and call it a day.

If all this is a bit overwhelming, here's what you want to do:

1. Get a personal shopper

Get your butt out of the computer chair and into a clothing store; the right, higher end clothes store, like a Nordstrom, Macy, Holt Renfrew, to name a few. Start asking about personal shoppers and start talking to them. These people have the information that you need! Ask for a quick consultation before you decide to actually engage a Personal Shopper. Bring some of your staple pieces with you, walk into a store, and get an opinion! That helps you decide who you want as a personal shopper and if they can work with you. You want to look and feel better in the outfits that they select.

Tell her (or him):

  • I'd like to add some bold/eye catching pieces to my wardrobe
  • I'd like some 'swish-y', soft and/or textured pieces
  • I'd like some accent pieces (eg. shoes, purse/bag)
  • I'd like some tops or blouses that I can wear after work so that if I wear a daytime jacket and take it off, then I have a different look
  • I'd like accessories (scarves, gloves, hat, etc.)

Remember to take some of your own clothes to the store! Let her/him offer suggestions so you don't need to purchase a completely new wardrobe. In fact, you may make several visits. Also take some photos of other items with your mobile phone.

If you are less inclined to get an in-person consultation, go online and search for fashion consultants for women. The digital age makes it incredibly easy. Google "Image Consultant" or "Image Stylist". Some will work remotely with you. You can take photographs of some of your wardrobe as well as you in some clothes and post them for advice.

If all else fails - let a girlfriend who has impeccable taste go through your wardrobe and then out shopping with you. Lunch is on you!

2. Wear flattering makeup

I advocate that every woman who wears makeup needs either a red statement lipstick or a great pink statement lipstick - something that isn't just neutral. A colour that says: "Here I am!"

Go to a MAC counter or to a specialist counter and get a pro to help you pick the shade. Trust me, they see you in a different light than you do (and tell them in which type of light you will mostly be wearing it). If you aren't going high end, another tip is get a tester/sample and ask a friend to judge the tone on you. Also, purchase an "under color" that will soften it during the day. Keep them in your purse. When you wear your softer color during the day (presuming you've got time to put your lipstick on at all), then you can add the darker lipstick at night.

3. Get a great pair of dark washed flattering jeans and a pair of statement shoes

Lots of times and in many situations, you may be able to wear a great pair of slimming jeans. Dark wash is really the only pair to consider for the ultimate slimming and "desk wear to dinner" option. Team them with a great pair of shoes! I am going to call these your CFM shoes (if you have to ask then you might not want me to explain). These shoes are really tall yet still comfortable. They make a statement out of your legs and silhouette. With the new platforms that are out there now, you can get quite comfortable platform shoes. Buy a pair - and no, not just in black! You can keep them at the office and slip them on as you head out the door. You can even provocatively dangle them off your foot if you are so inclined when you are at a bar... men love a high heel and this move especially seems to be a show-stopper! It's not wrong to play up your feminine sensuality!

4. The underworld

Spanx has taken over the world - and for good reason!. Thank you Sara Blakely! 5. Layers, layers, layers

Wearing layers is going to create flexibility in your look and help create an easier transition from day to night. Take off your suit jacket to show a fabulous blouse and skirt and replace the blazer with a pashmina or wrap that can drape seductively over your bare arms. Switch up your accessories, adding more sparkle to your nighttime choices and change up your shoes for fabulous heels. Remember that you are trying to command attention and that is not going to happen if you look like you just stepped out of the boardroom.

So to recap, here are your daytime to nighttime essentials:

  • Wear colour(s)
  • Wear skirts and dresses ideally
  • Wear soft, feminine fabrics that accentuate your assets
  • Wear heels or a great pair of boots
  • Invest in some statement pieces like fabulous heels or a sparkly blouse
  • Incorporate ONE sparkly, bold, textured, or bright detail into your outfit. Accessorize!
  • Layer your clothing

Remember, Rome wasn't built in a day. Neither is a fabulous wardrobe. Get help or shop online.

Once you have the essentials, you will never be wondering what to wear when you are meeting that special someone for cocktails (or looking for the next special someone) or romancing your honey on 'date night'. Once you take a few baby steps, you will probably be surprised how fun and easy it can be to turn from daytime power player to nighttime diva.

Who Best Benefits From Permanent Makeup?

In nearly every interview you read, talk of permanent makeup seems to roll freely off the red hot tongues of the rich and famous, but don't let that fool you into thinking they are the only people benefiting from this fashionable makeup trend. Not only has it very much made its way into the mainstream with many everyday women ( often professionals ) opting for the lasting beauty enhancing effects of what is also known as micro pigmentation or cosmetic tattooing but it has become a very popular for women and men for medical purposes. It is of little surprise that the permanent makeup industry is growing fast and permanent makeup courses are popping up faster than you can bat an eye lash!

So, what are the reasons for women of all ages to be either flocking to get inked on brows or lasting lip liner among other treatments? 'Everyone is an individual, and their chosen procedure is important to them for special reasons of their own' says Pam Andrews who is a qualified and experienced technician and trainer of cosmetic and medical micro-pigmentation. There are women who simply want to save time every day and get their eyebrows, eyeliner and lip liner permanently applied so they can simply 'wake up to make up'. Professional sports women are increasingly keen to go for permanent makeup so they can look their best at all times including in the pool and on the track. Celebrities such as Towie star Amy Childs are advocates of permanent makeup too, perhaps as they are under pressure by the media spotlight to look their best popping to the corner shop to buy some milk whilst dodging the paparazzi!

Women of a certain age are also turning to permanent makeup, for a variety of reasons. It could be that they find it harder to apply makeup every day in the same way that they used to due to sight difficulties or shaking hands adversely affecting the applications or it could be that they have over plucked their eyebrows over the course of a lifetime or are unhappy with the loss of lip line definition that naturally occurs with age. Permanent procedures can literally fill the gap here and restore confidence during the ageing process.

The medical use of micro-pigmentation is becoming increasingly widespread. The incredible therapeutic effects of this treatment is both a reason why people decide to have it and a reason why many people are now choosing to go on permanent makeup courses.

Men and women who have scars on eyebrows or lips that need to be covered daily, those who have suffered from alopecia and women who have had a mastectomy are just some of the people who choose permanent makeup as a way of rebuilding lost confidence. Many permanent makeup artists or 'therapists' are rewarded in their job with a very deep sense of job satisfaction. Helping to build self- esteem when someone has suffered severe trauma is a profoundly touching experience.

As we can see there is a whole host of valid reasons to support not only the application of permanent makeup but why it is becoming such a popular career choice for many people. Although it can certainly enhance ones looks and make for an easier life for busy professionals, for those who have decided to go ahead for medical reasons, the effect is certainly more than skin deep.

8 Top Countries' Dietary Advice for Pregnancy

In every culture, all over the world, even in obscure little towns and settlements, everyone has a theory about what a pregnant woman should, or shouldn't eat. There seems to be no universally established diet for the "pregnant woman."

Some say one thing and in a different part of the world some say the opposite. For instance, in Italy, wine is encouraged or rather there's an ambivalence towards wine for a pregnant woman, in Ireland, Guinness is encouraged whilst you are pregnant, in Spain a little coffee is okay and so on.

I'll make it easy for you by giving you all I've read on general thoughts and practices and dietary instructions from all over the world.

JAPAN

Firstly, in Japan a pregnant woman is strongly advised to lose weight as fat accumulates in the vaginal walls making childbirth difficult. Amazing isn't it? I'd never heard that before honestly. Well let's get on with it.

No raw eggs and liver, no unpasteurized diary products, no marlin and swordfish, no raw fish and shellfish, go easy on coffee and tuna.

KOREA

No tea with meals because tea reduces iron absorption.

Folic acid is found in green leafy vegetables (ugu leaf, oha leaf, uziza leaf, spinach, onion leaf) and nuts.

When you conceive you are advised to eat at regular times, it's important to gain weight slowly as the pregnancy progresses so avoid sweets to minimise weight gain.

Ensure that you eat fruits everyday, and drink lots and lots of water, a glass of water In between every meal and every snack should do.

Lastly, omega 3 (DHA supplement) is very good for the developing baby; it increases intelligence. I can't overemphasis the importance of taking this supplement so I'll put it like this, the baby in your womb might be the one to discover the cure for cancer! So let's do all that we can to ensure that she's as strong and healthy as possible.

Useful Makeup Tips To Look Beautiful

Getting some general make up tips for different occasions is a great idea since you don't want to wear the same type of makeup on every occasion. Makeup for office will be completely different from how you apply makeup on a wedding or birthday party.

Makeup tips and tricks often tell you to use the right foundation that matches your skin tone, use concealers to hide the blemishes on your skin and a shimmer on eyes so you they look fresh and bright. All these make up tips address the way you should wear makeup but there are few things common in every type of makeup and one should be aware of them. We have given some dos and don'ts of makeup below so you know how you can wear makeup without damaging your skin or ruining your personality by wearing makeup that goes drastically against your facial features.

Make Up Tips - The Do`s

• Whatever makeup material and products you choose, make sure that someone has already used and that others approve of its use. You don't want to end up with unsightly spots on your skin due to side effects from a product that didn't suit your skin.

• Very few make up tips talk about this factor but it is important to know that makeup is not to make you look different. The first and integral part of makeup is to highlight the good features on your face. Once you have figured out how to do that, you can work on concealing the spots or points that don't look so good to you.

• Whenever you are in the store and choosing the foundation, make sure you have enough time to spend in looking one that matches with your skin tone. Foundation is applied on your entire face so you don't want your face to stick out and look different from your neck and rest of the body.

• Apply makeup when your face is clean and using a moisturizer after taking shower is a great way to keep your skin fresh.

• Many make up tips also forget to mention the time that you should give before applying makeup after applying the moisturizer. Make sure you give enough time for moisturizer to absorb in your skin and once the moisturizer has absorbed you can start with your makeup.

• Often missed in most of the make up tips but here it is: make sure that you spend your money only on professional makeup brushes. You will easily notice the difference between the quality of makeup and its fineness when applied with a professional brush as opposed to a regular low quality brush.

• Always consult with a makeup critic who's present in most of the families. Just before leaving the house and joining the party, confirm with your friend or someone in your family if everything is looking "normal".

Make Up Tips - The Don'ts

• Don't ever wear makeup in a hurry especially if you don't have any experience of doing admirable makeup in a jiffy.

• Don't take makeup tips and tricks from people you know aren't very good with makeup. You would only want to take the advice of professionals and it isn't hard to get their advice now that you have internet access.

• Don't treat makeup like clothes, which means not to wear it all the time. We know this sounds one of the cliched make up tips but what's important needs mentioning. If you're too lazy to remove makeup at night and sleep while it is on, you're suffocating your skin all night long.

• Don't ever try to overdo your makeup. If something seems missing, you can add it later on but if you overdo it, there is no coming back unless may be you remove the whole makeup.

• Don't ever use the wrong concealer that goes against your foundation or skin. While hiding blemishes, you might make them look like skin spots from sun.

• Don't fall for every new product you see on TV or magazine. Everything is not made for you or your skin.

While you are on your way to learning professional makeup, don't hesitate from collecting the make up tips from professionals. Explore and research about things before you even think of using them on your skin.

Physical Beauty or Glamour, Fashion, Style and Elegance?

Beauty, it is often said, is in the eye of the beholder. Although every person has his or her definition of what beauty really is, in general it is considered as all the pleasing and favorable physical characteristics that can be seen in an individual. You can be ugly to one person and beautiful to the next; in any case, we define physical beauty by how we see it. And as always, beauty often leads to attraction and it greatly helps in the development of relationships both romantic and otherwise.

However, for those who think or consider themselves to be lacking in physical beauty, it usually leads to a lack of self-esteem and sense of style. Because of this seeming deficiency, they often lack glamour and they usually lag behind in fashion trends. But physical beauty can be enhanced by fashion and style, and people who consider themselves to be ugly can assume a sort of glamour that can be had by not following them.
More often than not, it takes a high level of self-confidence for a person to form his or her opinion about physical beauty. There are those who believe that beauty is beauty and there is no other substitute for it, others would see beauty in an ugly person because they see characteristics that are unique or special in that person. Fashion and style by themselves should not be means to an end, instead, they can be dispensed of and you can still be beautiful all the same.

Also, it is possible to be beautiful regardless of a lack of glamour, fashion, and style. Prevailing misconceptions and biases notwithstanding, an ugly person should believe that he or she is beautiful in his or her own special way. Beauty should not be defined by these three attributes; instead, they should be integral to how the person views himself or herself.

As stated above, you can be ugly and yet still be beautiful in your own special way. Ugliness lends to a sense of uniqueness and charm that can only come when it is viewed in a positive way. You can be fat and because of this, you see yourself to be lacking in glamour and style because elegant and stylish persons tend to be seen as fashionably thin. But that does not mean that you cannot indulge in the latest fashion trends and emerge as being fashionably fat. You may have bulging eyes, a comely face, and a generally homely aura, but if you have a pleasant personality and enough self-confidence, you are still able to make friends and partners. It all boils down to how you view yourself; you can establish your own sense of style and assume a certain level of fashion that will help you go by.

Whatever other people say, you are who you are and that alone should make up for all of your physical shortcomings. You and you alone must realize that glamour, fashion, and style are not necessarily needed if you see yourself as beautiful.

Towards a Lesbian Lifestyle

Victorian Society were loathed to accept a homosexual lifestyle; and believed it was an aberrant sexuality, which needed to be corrected or/and punished. Queen Victoria thought that the notion of a lesbian was something outside of the norm and preferred to think that this particular type of sexuality did not exist; and should certainly not be practised. Oscar Wilde, a well known playwright of the time, was actually incarcerated for sexual immorality. He referred to gay love as 'the love that dare not speak its name.(1)

In today's 21st Century gays and lesbians have 'come out' and openly share and practise their love for each other. Same sex relationships are not particularly frowned on, and seem less outside of the societal norm. Additionally the media tends to be less critical and public opinion seems less judgmental of this type of lifestyle. It might be argued that the radical shift in public opinion with regard to this type of lifestyle can be attributed to some extent to the willingness of gays and lesbians to openly discuss their lives and feelings. The increasingly popular 'Talk Shows' of the 90s have also been influential in encouraging others to appreciate that we all have a right to choose who we love and have a sexual relationship with.

There were and still are a multiplicity of television and radio talk shows which encourage open discussions on gay and lesbian lifestyles; and I would argue that in highlighting the subject matter it has become acceptable as part of the norm. This type of sexuality is seen as being quite common place, and is no longer perceived as being sexually deviant or unacceptable in contemporary society.

Furthermore it can be argued that stereotypes of gays and lesbians are less archetypal and the image of the 'butch' lesbian much less overt. It might in fact be said that previously there was a need to look different and so attract others of the same sex. This has altered somewhat as the media and society now accept the lesbian lifestyle as simply another way to love. Understanding it might be argued has given way to genuine acceptance of another lifestyle.

Recently while reading an article entitled Lesbian Life - What causes homosexuality (What makes someone Gay or Lesbian)-(2) I remember thinking it's almost as if it's perceived as a disease, something very undesirable and to be avoided at all costs. The premise of the article is to discuss whether there is a gay gene, as a possible explanation for the variance in our sexuality. If for instance you have the gay gene, then its inevitable that you would have a preference for your own sex. Essentially this illuminates the science versus religion debate. If our creator made us so that we have a preference for our own sex, then how can religious proponents condemn us, and say it's against biblical precepts for us to practise this lifestyle? It may be argued that this indicates that one's sexuality is not innate but environmental.

The article was also keen to explore our socialization, for instance did the subject become gay or lesbian because of some disparity in the child's upbringing; or was it caused by some trauma experienced in childhood or as a young person. The causes, reasons or factors for someone becoming a lesbian is briefly discussed in terms of it being a genetic condition. It suggests that our preferred sexual orientations is something we were born with, in much the same way as an inherited trait, like skin or hair colour.

So what makes you a lesbian, I'm not an authority on the subject nor do have I a wealth of experience on the subject. Basically, I'm speaking from the perspective of an observer, not a practitioner. On the basis of that I can only share my thoughts on the matter. Personally, I believe that you are not born gay, nor do I think it's inherited or in the genes so to speak. I believe that our sexuality is to a large extent based on personal choice. How far are our life choices determined by the society we live in; by our parenting and being a product of the environment in which we live? These and other questions should be given careful consideration when discussing our sexuality; it is I believe similar to assessing what determines our characters, personality and identity. Ultimately it is a personal choice we are making because after all we are conscious rational human beings able to make our own choices and decisions.

8 Tips to Handle Downsides of Pregnancy

Every man knows and accepts that the only time a woman has a free ticket to "complain" is when she's pregnant.

It's a total mystery, how women are able to withstand the aches and pains and strange physical changes that occur when conception takes place.

I'd like to share possible tips to help you as you experience this bombardment of discomforts as this alien (that would be your baby) takes over.

  1. Vaginal Discharge-: a vaginal discharge during pregnancy is normal, it should be white, mucous like and clear without odour. But when it turns white and pasty and itches, that would be an infection. Please see your doctor.

  2. Painful Pee-: when it hurts to pee, if it burns and is excruciatingly slow, you might have an infection. So don't pass go, don't collect two hundred dollars, please go straight to your doctor.

  3. Shooting pains in your vagina-: This can be more uncomfortable rather than painful. It shouldn't last long, don't be alarmed its pressure on your nerves, just walk it off.

  4. Achy ribs-: from the 7th to the 9th month, women complain of aches around the ribcage. The uterus has enlarged by this stage, you see, and is touching your ribs. What you can do is stretch your arms high above your head, it should relieve the pressure a little.

  5. Bad dreams-: awful dreams of loss, death, hard labour and delivery sometimes come as your due date approaches especially with your first pregnancy. If you are a woman of faith, pray. If not, talk to your partner or your mum and sisters, what you need is comfort and reassurance.

  6. Insomnia;-: trouble sleeping? Get ride of coffee and frequent cups of tea, a few exercises and a warm bath just before you sleep should wear you out and make you comfortable enough to sleep deeply. If you still can't sleep, then use the small lamp beside your bed and read a good book till you fall asleep.

  7. Morning sickness-:This can be triggered by taste, smell, it varies from woman to woman, it can come at any time of the day. Crackers and tea beside your bed in the morning should halt the sickness. During the day eat small portions of food but frequently. If it gets worse and your body weight drops please see your doctor.

  8. Heartburn and constipation-: the hormones cause digestion to take place slowly. Fibre helps reduce constipation, avoid spicy food, don't sleep flat on your back, lie down on your side.

No woman will have all these issues to contend with, but if you do or you know anyone who does have them all then... I know a good priest.
